Photo of the Day

Today’s photo of the day is from a slideshow of wrecked Mustangs on StreetFire. Anyone know the story behind this? Where did that jet come from? Keep those photo of the day PMs and e-mails coming!

Sbarro Autobau: WTF?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I didn’t really pay a whole lot of attention to the Geneva Motor Show this year, but the Sbarro Autobau definitely caught my eye. Seriously, WTF? Is this some kind of Bosozuku-inspired shaving device? Via The New York Times

Killer Sleeper: a 1991 Mustang That Looks Like Hell and Runs Like Stink
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Sleepers rule. True sleepers rule even harder and this Mustang that belongs to BangShift.com forum member Affordillac is proof positive of that. Other than the big fat drag radials on the rear “dial a date” wheels, this thing appears harmless. The best parts about this car you’ll just have to see to believe.
Affordillac posted a ton of photos showing the greatness of the crappy paint, thrashed interior, strategically placed trash, and other items that lull unsuspecting victims into the trap.
The BangShift.com approved greatness gets flowing when he reveals the hidden fuel cell, nitrous bottle, fake battery and other neato mechanical tricks. Admittedly, if one were to open the hood and spy the small block Chevy with motor plates, the gag would be up, but some sweet talking could prevent the hood from being opened. You’ve got to love this car!

Spoon CR-Z
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Honda’s new CR-Z has only been on sale in Japan for a couple of weeks now, and already tuners are jumping into the fray to see what they can do with the “Sports Hybrid”. Spoon’s CR-Z has already been outfitted with uprgaded brakes, suspension, wheels, an exhaust system and an ECU tune. Seems quite promising so far. Spotted over at Autoblog

Scrapping Old Rides In Russia

This series of photos over at English Russia demonstrates that scrapyards are sad no matter where you are. Watch obscure Soviet iron go from salvageable to shredded.

Bruce Willis, Old-School Muscle, and A Bunch Of Gorillaz
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
Ingredients for a kick-ass music video. Tough muscle cars: check. Car chase involving said muscle cars: check. A gun-wielding Bruce Willis: double-check. Good song with a sweet base note: not necessary, but it doesn’t hurt. Animated monkeys: why the hell not? If any of this sounds promising, check out the new video for “Stylo” by the Gorillaz.
What $3,333 Buys You In Detroit
Atomicalex
A giant tow truck and a LeMons car! Check out Henry, the enormous tow truck that my buddies Andy and Ben picked up for three stacks at a fire sale here in Detroit. It’s got a custom bed that cost almost as much as they paid for the truck. Tilt, slide, winch, and a funky fifth foot that lifts the entire rear end of the truck up over a foot. The cab folds forward to access the Cummins Diesel powerplant. The LeMons car on the back? That’s Darius, the $330 Supra from the dark side. The remaining $3? A Harbor Freight plate frame. These guys are totally nuts. What’s the craziest thing you can get for three large? Can you top Henry?
Tough Camaro Cop Car
By Jen Dunnaway

There’ve been 2010 Camaro police car concepts and renderings circulating around pretty much as long as there’s been 2010 Camaros, but this is apparently the first sighting of a marked and legitimate one in the wild. Rather than just slap on the usual lightbars and decals, the Haltom City Police Department in Texas treated themselves to a custom build by Classic Chevrolet for their new Camaro SS patrol car, with subtly-integrated LED lighting throughout, including the stealth row of blues behind the grille. Seems a little decadent, but I guess there’s worse ways to dispose of taxpayers’ dollars! See more at Jalopnik.

Soggy Corvette Fail
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
Warning, the following video is not for the avid Corvette fan! Backing up and giving it full throttle, the owner plows a pristine C4 right into the water causing it to stall and possibly hydro-lock. Do you think the wet Corvette lived to race another day? Read more about the soggy abuse at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
LeMons Turnover!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
This in-car footage from the 24 Hours of LeMons shows exactly how quick things can go sideways when a bunch of cars are being driven in anger. This racer makes some contact while overtaking some slower cars, and the disruption winds up putting him into the wall. Obviously, nobody wants to crash out of contention, but there’s got to be some consolation if the incident at least looks burly. Maybe it’s the old skateboarder in me talking, but I think that upside down and on fire is a bad-ass way to go out!
