The Forum Wars: Mustang vs. Z

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

The Forum Wars TV show puts different forums and different cars head to head in an all-out tire-smoking speed contest. The show will begin to air segments on Speed TV April 5th, along with full episodes on-line. The first episode of the show features Stangnet.com against My350Z.com. For the premier episode, I got to represent Stangnet in a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT outfitted with Hoosier Tires, Carbotech Brake Pads and I/O Port Racing Supplies harnesses. It was a blast, but I don’t get to tell you what happens!

Check out the trailer below and check to see on April 5th who wins the match-up: Mustang or Z?

Hopped Up Renault 4CV

By Mike Bumbeck

Clunkbucket

Over a million Renault 4CV sedans can’t be wrong. Sales of the 4CV hit half a million units in 1954, and surpassed the million mark by 1960. The 4CV was sold here in America, and manufactured under license as the HINO 4CV in Japan. And what’s not to like? Rear engine. Developed in total secrecy by a German-occupied WW2 France. Rear wheel drive. Cheap to buy when produced. Still relatively easy to hop-up with proven modifications, as long as there’s a few spare parts kicking around. Very light at 1230 or so pounds. The Volkswagen-like 4CV is even the progenitor of the rally-winning Alpine A106. Larry Peacock has one more great reason why he digs his 1960 Renault 4CV with a Lexus emblem glued onto the side. It hasn’t caught on fire and burned to the ground like his Citroen SM did. Read more and gape at a giant 4CV Gallery over at Clunkbucket!

Tweaker Corvette: The “Dragon”

Jalopnik says, “this reminds us of when we let our kid cousin try and use the Microsoft Paint-like tool on Forza to tart up in-game vehicles.” Me, I just blame the meth addiction. Hit the jump to see the rest of it, via Jalopnik.

Take The Plywood Bus, Help The Boys Overseas

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Inspired by our recent post on the Kaiser articulated aluminum/magnesium bus, frequent blog contributor Gene Herman sent us a couple photos of another Santa Fe Trailways bus made out of an unusual material: plywood. Gene writes:

Built out of plywood during WW II in Santa Fe’s Wichita, KS., shops to conserve valuable war materiel, the Victory Liner was used  to transport civilian employees to military arms factories during the war. It had a passenger capacity of 117. Don’t know anything about the mechanicals, unfortunately.

This shot only adds to the confusion about the mechanicals of the bus. Did the driver sit in the center and swing with the tractor unit, or did the Santa Fe folks figure out some sort of hydraulic steering setup that allowed the driver to sit atop the cab? The normally knowledgeable denizens of the Hank’s Truck Pictures forum and the BusTalk forum weren’t able to provide answers. Nor were they able to tell us about its ultimate fate, though we can guess that a plywood-bodied vehicle has a very limited lifespan. Continue reading at Hemmings.

Army Jeep?

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

Last Saturday while out driving, I saw this Jeep Comanche in a parking lot and couldn’t help but flip a quick U-turn to get a closer look. Having spent 8 years in the US Army myself, I have to give this Jeep some credit. I’m impressed with how closely this rig resembles the 80′s GM trucks still in use by the military when I joined in the late 90′s. From olive drab paint to the blacked-out wheels, this Comanche brings back memories. The fuel can was missing, but the Army-style hand-sprayed yellow letters, warning labels, and water can add to its authenticity. As far as I know, the only Comanche ever commissioned by the Army is a badass helicopter–but this little one looks more than ready to serve. See additional pics after the jump!

The Internetz Is Your Buddy

By David Clarke

We all know how to use the internet–it’s how you’re capable of reading this, right? What I wanna know is, what are your tips for finding the car-related info you need ? My best advice when searching for a part or a certain piece of information is to start right here with the CarDomain community. From there use search engines and be specific with the information you’re looking for, only backing out to more general terms if the search turns up nothing. Follow this, and you can learn how to build just about anything. Case in point:  just yesterday, I used the power of the internetz to learn how to effortlessly adapt a relatively obscure mod to my 1984 Caprice. Follow the jum to find out how.

The CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The 1975 – 79 Chevrolet Monza V-8

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to another edition of the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, where we discover cars that were never really thought of as Muscle Cars, and to try and change your mind about them. In the mid 70′s the Muscle Car was all but dead, or was it? Chevrolet introduced a new compact rear-wheel drive car in 1971 called the Vega. Now, a lot has been written about what a piece of crap the Vega turned out to be, and I can’t dispute that. However, the chassis designed for the Vega was pretty good, and when properly tweaked, it could be a champ. So GM produced a sexy little brawler using the chassis of the Vega, incorporated some design influence from Ferrari, dusted off a name last used on the Corvair, and dropped in an optional V-8. But is it a Muscle Car? Let’s find out if the Chevy Monza belongs in the Parking Lot.
