2010 Camaro Awarded World Car Design of the Year

By Chris Bicknell

The 2010 Camaro was presented with the “World Car Design of the Year” award at the New York International Auto Show last week. The resurrected Camaro topped a list of thirty World Car candidates nominated by fifty-nine World Car jurors from twenty-five countries. GM has sold over 80,000 new Camaros since their release in the spring of 2009 and has outsold the competition for the past 10 months straight. So what do you think? In light of all this, does the Camaro deserve an international award for best all-round design, or would you have awarded it to a different 2010 vehicle? Read more about the Camaro’s award after the jump.

“The new Camaro leans on its heritage but does so in an artful, modern fashion. Although it borrows some of its styling cues from the first generation Camaro, they all contribute to a simple, pure and modern appearance. It is the most dynamic Camaro ever,” says Masatugu Arimoto, chairman of the Japan Auto Colour Award program. Sam Livingstone, Associate Editor of Car Design News, say the Camaro has an “innately seductive exterior and interior. It’s well resolved and I’d argue evidence that General Motors strikes a better balance than Ford and Chrysler do in their pony cars.”

LOL! Such an ugly. poorly designed(I can’t see out the cave Batman!), hunk of Garbage Motors(Mustang handles better with a solid rear axle).

It looks badass, now make it perform as good as it looks and knock off stupid notions like disabling the ability to smoke the tires. Wanna snip the balls off your prize bull?

well im not sure if GM was the ones that should have won it even though im a GM guy, but i think the Camaro looks bad ass. only thing im not a fan of is the black part of the rear bumper. i think the amount sold has something to do with the design because nobody is going to buy a car they think is ugly i know i wouldn’t. i think GM did a good job on designing the new Camaro by basically taking a 69 Camaro and making it look modern. now i wonder what the Gen 6 Camaro will look like but thats a few years down the road im sure, i also can’t wait to see GM’s answer to the 2011 Mustang GT, still haven’t heard anything about a 2011 Camaro SS so im hoping they’re going to make it better or at least even with the 2011 GT Mustang
