Tampa Sports Car Examiner

The BMW Z4 GT3 is one of the most anticipated releases of the BMW Z Series for a reason. This car is not only fast, it’s the best of the best. Handling, sound, and style all meet together and form one vehicular spectacle known as the Z4 GT3. Hold on tight–this is one wicked ride. Read more at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Ken Block Falls on Hard Times. Forced to Sell Infamous Gymkhana STI

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

We found this thread on VW Vortex. Maybe Ken Block has not sufficiently wowed his new Ford partners enough as of yet. Perhaps the economic downturn has slowed the sale of DC Shoes and flat-brimmed hats. Maybe his upcoming gymkhana event series couldn’t find funding (uh, what we mean is, what gymkhana event series?).

Ken Block at 2009 X Games

Maybe this Craig’s List post is a joke. Maybe it was all just a dream. And maybe, just maybe, this seller is serious. Maybe he – yes, he, because there is no way a woman would do this to her car – is on drugs. Perhaps he’s on some medical grade nitrous, or meth, or maybe even something that we don’t know about. Maybe something that would require an ice cube up the butt. But then, Coyle is only one who would know anything about that.

All we have to say is that to be truly ironic this seller should have applied KB’s Subaru livery to a Ford Escort wagon. Get it? On second thought, it doesn’t get much more hi-lar-ious than the green underglow and hidden trailer hitch. That is, unless you were to release a remix of the original Gymkhana video, with machine guns and Sid and Marty Kroft explosive effects. Yes, that would rock us like a hurricane.

Smyth Performance on CarDomain

By Rob Einaudi

Factory Five Racing founder/owner Mark Smith has a new project–a high mpg mid-engined performance car based on the MK4 Golf. He’s building the first example right now in his garage, and it’s TDI powered. Kits will be available in June for $10,000. Check out Mark’s ride page for more details and pics. And become a fan of Smyth Performance on CarDomain!

Flywheel401 has a number of awesome pics on his page. I really liked the one of his AMX all apart with the red-painted wheel spindles in front, but ultimately, I think this older scanned-looking shot with the chopper in the background takes the cake. The whole scene seems very Vietnam Era. Check out his page!

Mercedes-Benz Museum

By Rob Einaudi

Last week I spent a few days in Stuttgart, Germany, hanging out with the good folks at Mercedes-Benz. My first stop was the Mercedes-Benz Museum, constructed at considerable expense in 2006. If you ever find yourself in southern Germany, I would definitely recommend stopping by. The architecture is pretty amazing (check out the cool elevators zipping up and down on the pic below), but given the fact that I didn’t have too much time, I mostly focused on the cars. You can see all the pics I shot in our events section, but I’ve posted a few highlights (with links to video!) after the jump.

1956 Chevy Promo Film Featuring The Joie Chitwood Stunt Drivers

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We were a little harsh on the Joie Chitwood stunt show earlier, relaying our last memory of the program as relating only to the fact that they were driving Toyota Camrys. It wasn’t always like that, as the program had a long running relationship with Chevrolet. Below is a promotional film for the 1956 Chevys, which Chitwood was thoroughly thrashing in his stunt show. It’s awesome stuff.

They claim that no modifications were made to the cars in the show and they were identical to what could be bought off the showroom floor. Who really cares either way, it’s just neat to see these old shoe boxes flying through the air and sliding around!

KEI Paddock 510

Car Culture At Large

The aggressive, modern style aero and big wheels might not be everyone’s taste, but I think Kei Paddock’s NA SR20-powered 510 Bluebird project car is rad. Spotted the Fukuoka Custom Car Show in Feburary.

Is Kyle Busch A Factor–Again?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

We thought we’d heard the last of him after he fell on his face mid-season, missed last year’s Chase for the Cup by a few measly points, and lost his superstar crew chief Steve Addington to his own big brother. But the younger Busch has been slowly creeping his way back up, and last weekend’s Sprint Cup race at Phoenix saw him slip into the all-important top twelve in points after leading 113 laps of the race. After watching him win the previous night’s Nationwide race at the same track, we almost thought he’d have it in him to seal the deal on Saturday, and some say he easily could have if it wasn’t for that late-race bad call for a four-tire pit stop (Addington never would’ve let that happen). So, I’m wondering if this is even on your radar: are we to hear more from Kyle Busch this season?

Shelby Mustang Trans Am on eBay

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

After spending most of its life in the land down under, this 1967 Shelby Trans Am was brought back to the US where it was completely restored to its precise factory specifications.  This car was the only ’67 Mustang T/A factory fitted with an amazing Weber twin-choke carburetor set-up, getting 395 hp out of a 302 coupled to a Borg Warner T-10 four speed–all in all, one hell of a vintage racer. There are only five known survivors of the 26 Shelby Mustang Trans Ams built in 1967, and this is the only one ever shipped to Australia.  After being delivered in April of ’67, the car competed in the Tasman Trans Am series with drivers Greg Cusak and Niel Allen covering events in Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania. See more pictures after the jump and check out the eBay auction for a full history of this rare Mustang.

The CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The 1969 – 73 Imperial Coupe

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to another edition of the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, where I find Obscure Cars that should be considered Muscle Cars, and then try and convince you that they belong in the Parking Lot. Chrysler Corporation was at the forefront of the muscle car era, offering iconic high-performance machines such as the Road Runner, the Charger, the Super Bee, the Plymouth GTX, the Baracuda, and even the Chrysler 300. There is one division within the company, Imperial, that produced more of an understated luxurious automobile. However, by 1969, Imperial shared most of its body, chassis, engine, and even its dimensions with its Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth stablemates. With this in mind, one could purchase a coupe version of the Imperial, equipped with a 440 CID V-8, and have almost as much performance as either the Dodge Polara, or Plymouth Fury GT, in a more refined package. So, is the Imperial an Obscure Muscle Car? Let’s find out.
