Wacky Wedding Road Trip, Powered By Ford

By Stephanie Porteus

HotRodHoney

Recently I picked up an edition of MY Ford magazine (a magazine Ford owners receive after the purchase of their new vehicle) and read a most peculiar love story. Initially, it followed the standard format: boy meets girl, they fall in love, they decide to get married. But then things took a turn for the unique. Read more…

What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

I charged my Impala’s battery and took on the simple task of changing the front right turn signal bulb on the ‘Vette. It was the first time for me that changing a light bulb involved removing a wheel, but all in all it was pretty simple. How about you? What did you do this weekend?

Dan Neil to the Wall Street Journal??

By Katherine Helmetag

I did a doubletake this morning when I picked up my Wall Street Journal and saw the “New Car Writer” splash box. Yeah, I admit that I’m geeky enough to read the Journal. I love the Me&My Car column on Wednesdays, where editor Jonathan Welsh tells people what to buy next. Anyway, Dan Neil, legendary pundit of the LA Times, is now writing for the Journal. True to form, his V6 Mustang review reads like pulp fiction. At least he liked the car–it’s an impressive build from Ford and should put all of the V6 haters to bed. We’ll have to see where this goes–will Neil tone it down for the pinstriped-suit crew, or will the Journal’s editorial board have to learn some new words? Which way do you think it will go?

You’re Doing It Wrong, English Russia Edition

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Sure, we don’t have to look any further than our own American backyard to see examples of ill-advised mods. But it’s always entertaining to discover how other parts of the world each have their own unique style of doing it wrong, and a whole different set of novel and I-never-would’ve-thought-of-that cars to do it wrong to. English Russia has finally compiled a monster thread of all the weirdest rides they’ve dredged up from arguably one of the world’s weirdest custom cultures. See the best of these Eastern Bloc beauties below the jump, and check out English Russia for the full gallery.

Mitsubishi Jeep Manufacturing Bonanza

By Mike Bumbeck

Clunkbucket

A never-ending search for a survivor first-gen Dodge D50-Plymouth Arrow Sport pickup truck combined with creative keywording of a local classified advertisements has unearthed another sort of captive import. Like the Dodge and Plymouth pickups, this 1974 Jeep is actually a Mitsubishi. Technically a Mitsubishi H-J58, the Mitsu-Jeep is a very near clone of its Willys cousin Jeep CJ3B. Mitsubishi manufactured all sorts of Jeeps under license from the Willys Jeep Corporation from 1953 to 1998–a 45-year run! Under the hood of this ’74 model is an early 2000 cc gasoline version of the mighty Astron series of Mitsubishi engines. The 4G52 cranks two or four wheels, and ran like a champ when we went to take a ride in the Mitsu-Jeep with current owner Steve Kopito over in Chatsworth, California. Steve is the proprietor of Owens Export Service, which has exported boatloads of American Jeeps worldwide, and imported quite a few Japanese automobiles back stateside. More on the Mitsu-Jeep along with a boatload of pictures over at Clunkbucket!

Real-Life Turtle Van

By Jen Dunnaway

Did you grow up with the Ninja Turtles? I did, and because of that, I cannot help but love the life-sized TMNT Turtle Van replica that Brittney made out of her Caravan. The sequences on pages 3 and 4 detailing the paint and the painstaking construction of all the turtle-related accessories are hilarious. Check out Brittney’s page!

Ted’s Crazy Hand-Built Dirt Track Racer!

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Ted’s racing season in Michigan begins in the middle of April, and he’s still building the engine for his ’57 Chevy-based dirt-track monster, so he’d better hustle! He’s already done some amazing stuff on this project, including hand-fabricating the entire frame and shell himself from mock-up templates he made out of poster board. Can’t wait to see how it does at the track. Check out his ride page!

Driving a Ferrari F430 to Queens

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

On Thursday morning Mike Musto picked me up at my hotel in New York City in a black Ferrari F430 he is helping to get ready for One Lap of America. We drove it across the 59th Street Bridge out to his place in Queens, then grabbed his Magnum SRT8 and drove back into Manhattan to attend the second media day at the New York Auto Show. Two mean black cars with burly V8s! More pics and video after the jump!

Photo of the Day

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

There were so many awesome photos on BBRetro’s ride page that it was hard to pick just one. But I like the framing, the hint of red calipers, and the slight grittiness of this one. Check out his others–he does some really cool stuff with color saturation and a badass black car. Seen any pics deserving of Photo of the Day? Drop me a line.
