Big Block, Big Boom

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Unless you’re totally deaf, you can hear something go terribly wrong at about the 29-second mark. Why the dyno operator didn’t kill this poor big block before it did a perfect hand grenade impression is anyone’s guess, but the resulting carnage is impressive.

Poor Big Blow Blows on the Dyno

Video from the Texas Mile

By Rob Einaudi

What’s up with spinning out after every run? Still, Richard Holt’s Underground Racing Gallardo is pretty damn impressive, running 250.1 MPH in the standing mile. But check out the Ford GT that went 266.93 MPH after the jump!

Weird Ad: A 1984 Ford LTD Hits the Road Course

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Our grandparents had a mid-1980s Ford LTD station wagon for a long stretch through the 1980s and 1990s. It was a complete and total barge, good transportation, but slower than a fully laden mule team. Keeping that in mind, when we saw this Ford ad with Bob Bondurant behind the wheel, we had to laugh out loud.

Who else thinks that the car came all the way around him on his first trip through the cones?

CarDomain Wants You To Do It Yourself

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

We’ve had a lot of great How To‘s in the blog recently, including Dave’s tutorial on wrapping headers and Chris’s epic power disc brake conversion. Looking over these, I’m reminded that the single best thing you can do in this hobby is to help other people work on their own cars. Whether it’s coaching your kid sister through her first oil change or posting up a detailed install for your forum buddies to learn from, empowering fellow and future gearheads with knowledge is the way you earn your automotive angel wings. So, in the interests of that: got any recent or planned mods or installs you’d like to write up for the CarDomain blog? We’re looking for well-photographed, clearly written How To’s on basically any automotive topic, big or small, to post right here for the CarDomain community. It can be anything from a simple wiring project to a full engine rebuild–the idea is to help enthusiasts at all levels of ability–so if you’ve done it and photographed it, we want to hear about it. Get in touch in the comments or via PM and let us know what you want to post, and we’ll set you up as a contributor!

Purse-Snatcher No Match For Vigilante Drifter

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

When this creep grabbed some woman’s purse, he clearly didn’t count on being chased down by a crime fighter with Formula-D level wheel skills. Watch how brilliantly the mystery driver blocks the would-be mugger’s escape in preparation for the embarrassing take-down. Thanks to chomp_sticks for the tip, via FailBlog.org.

Fastest Evo On a Stock Block- Courtesy of STM

By Taner Tozan

Taner Tozan

This STM tuned Evo holds the record as the world’s fastest Mitsubishi on a stock block. Pushing over 680 horsepower with 584 ft/lbs of torque, it runs the quarter in 9.60 Quarter at 156mph. To put it into perspective, the 2009 Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce runs a respectable 10.9 second quarter mile. Not to mention the MSRP in excess of $350,000.

The CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: 1977 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1978 – 79 Dodge Magnum and 1979 Chrysler 300

By Jim Brennan

Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, where I research unusual cars of the past which might fall under the Muscle Car banner, and then try to convince you that they belong in the Parking Lot. In this edition, we have a trifecta of Chrysler-produced two doors. Remember, this was a time in which Chrysler was trying to sell anything to generate cash flow, and the best way to sell a “new” vehicle is to introduce special editions, or new names on existing bodies. Which brings me to these three offerings from the late 70′s. They were all produced from the Chrysler Cordoba: let’s discover the Dodge Charger Daytona, the Dodge Magnum, and the Chrysler 300 from the late 70′s.

Hey, another blog about dogs. Why? Why not? And yes, they are wearing Endless doggie driving suits. Yes, I have spent some money on dumb stuff. At least this purchase doesn’t take up half of my garage.
