Go Big Or Go Home In Texas

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Texas is a state of “big” ideology. That bigger than life thinking and notion seeps into modern performance and street racing in many ways. Going big with vehicles like a supercharged SRT-10 Dodge Viper, twin turbo Ford GT, Procharged LS3 Corvette, and a GMC 1500 with SRT-10 Viper engine swap means these guys never have to go home. Datsun Swamp Monster In Rides For Sale

By Jen Dunnaway

CarDomain’s Rides For Sale section is filling up, and there’s definitely some weirdness that’s filtering through. Keith recently listed his Ford 302-powered Datsun pickup for $3K, and he says “it can forge rivers and wheel in the mud like you wouldn’t believe.” Check out his ride page for pics of it doing just that!

StreetFire at Round One of Formula D 2010

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

At this year’s Formula D opener in Long Beach, Vaughn Gittin Jr. proved that you can hit the track in a brand new car and wind up on the top of the podium. It probably helps if said car is a 2011 Mustang 5.0, but it’s still a really impressive feat for his team. In this video, Nads talks to Gitten Jr. about the new Pony and also gets some face time with third-place finisher Tanner Foust.

Photo of the Day

Cars By The Water is a great theme, and Andrea’s mint Chevelle against a backdrop of slightly unkempt dock real estate captures it perfectly. If you see a photo you’d like to see featured as a Photo of the Day, drop me a line!

A German Dude Runs a 1970 Challenger at Full Tilt on the Autobahn

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Holy friggin’ awesome. This video ranks in the top three of the coolest we’ve ever spied on YouTube. It’s in-car footage of a guy taking his very healthy 1970 Dodge Challenger out on the German Autobahn and twisting the 140mph speedo right off the end of the scale! Between the sounds the car is making, the little in-set shot of the speedo, and the fact that slow cars get the hell out of the way as he hauls by, this is high speed nirvana.

It’s so cool, it almost makes up for the fact this dude is wearing a ring on his index finger, and stole Eddy Vedders hair and shirt.

The car seems stable enough at speed and this is one of the few videos that really gives you a sense of just how fast 140mph is. When he backs the Dodge down to about 80mph, it seems like he is crawling! Crank up the speakers and listen to the Mopar mill sing!

NASA’s Western Endurance Racing Championship

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

The first event of National Auto Sport Association’s (NASA) Western Endurance Racing Championship (WERC) was held last weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway in Southern California. The series showcases six different classes and hard fought battles as teams race into the night in an enduro format with multiple driver swaps and fuel stops. The culmination of the multiple race series ends in December during NASA’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill. See the full write up and results from NASA’s first Western Endurance Racing Championship event of 2010 at Jalopnik.
