GM Repaid Government Loan In Full 5 Years Ahead of Schedule
Bick66
General Motors announced yesterday that they have fully repaid their government loan, plus interest, five years ahead of schedule. Although GM has has a lot of work ahead to get back on track, it seems like they are making steps in the right direction. I guess time will tell just how much they’ve learned from their past mistakes. Watch below as Chairman and CEO of General Motors Ed Whitacre talks about the repayment and touches on the future of GM and read more at gm.com.
A 1971 Olds 442 W30 ‘Vert Gets Thrashed
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
With a total production class of about 30 cars, it’s rare to lay eyes on a real 1971 Olds 442 W30 convertible, so seeing one of these cars get thrashed on a road course, spun out, and thrown through the cones is a special treat. Thanks to a tipster we can share with you some cool old video showing a segment from Bud Lindemann’s “Car and Track” TV show. Watching the big Olds during panic stops is scary fun.
Whoever the test driver was for this show had the greatest job in the world. They really beat the hell out of this car in a multitude of ways. Our favorite parts are the moments when the car is tail out around the corners and frying tire all the way out of the frame. Torque is your friend.
Thanks to BangShift.com reader Scott Bares for the tip!

Caliper Painting On The Cheap
Bick66
When I could no longer stand the sight of the Corvette’s drab and discolored front calipers, I decided it was time for a quick fix. Though I was initially a little wary of 20-dollar kit I picked up from the local parts store, the outcome ended up being a lot better than I expected. Read below the jump to see just how easy and inexpensive it is to dress up your ride with a little caliper paint.

Hot Rod Lincoln
Grassroots Motorsports
Sure, anyone can race a Porsche, Ferrari or even a Honda. But a Lincoln? Meet the latest member of the Grassroots Motorsports fleet. Our publisher just dragged home this Mark VII. It’s destiny? A couple of LeMons and ChumpCar races.

Honda S2000 Crosses River
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
Like a striped bass, this S2000 crosses the river with ease. After a few on-site modifications to make it water friendly, it quickly crosses the deep and rocky riverbed like a champ. I still can’t believe what I’m seeing here! Read more about the crazy crossing at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
LeMons: Six Penalty Tires and a Cone of Shame
Atomicalex
I think Scirocket Racing set a rather undesirable record this weekend at the 24 Hours of LeMons American Irony race: Most Tires Ever Bolted to a LeMons Car. After a penalty-plagued saturday that ended with us putting the car on the trailer at 7:30, we pleaded with the Powers That Be to send out our two un-flagged drivers on sunday. Luck and Lamm smiled on us, and out we went for five and a half hours of racing that miraculously only included one flag near the end of the day. Of course, we got piled on by the judges, who’d had enough of our unusual ability to avoid actually serving penalties, and had to find those six tires, paint them, and get them firmly attached to the car. We managed to find a set of kart tires for four of them. Once we were able to stop laughing at ourselves, we got back out on track and are pretty darned happy to be the first Scirocco to finish a LeMons under its own power.

The Smoking Tire Pits the 2010 S4 against the 2007 RS4
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
In the this episode of the Smoking Tire, Matt Farah and his buddy Craig take two hot Audis—the 2010 S4 and the 2007 RS4—up into the canyons of Malibu to find out how the company’s newest sports sedan compares to what they regard as its best sports sedan. Obviously, each car has its own strengths and weaknesses, but the real surprise in this episode has nothing to do with either of these AWD Germans. So what is it? Matt admits he’s actually owned a Hummer. Wow…
Photo of the Day

When it comes to off-road, I tend to prefer action shots to still life, but Chase’s FJ somehow just looks so stately sitting in a big puddle in the rain that I was unable to resist. Keep those Photo of the Day suggestions coming!

Production Volts Sighted In The Wild
By Jen Dunnaway

The Volt is now in testing on public roads without much in the way of camouflage. These two were spotted on I-66 in Virginia by VWVortex member jamerican1. I’m a little disappointed that, rolling down the road, the Volt basically just looks like a Prius. But I guess pretty much everything electrified looks like a Prius these days, and the Volt has so much more to offer over the current crop of hybrids. One more pic below the jump!
