Weirdest Camaro Kit To Date?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Despite the SS badging, it almost looks more AMX than Camaro. Matt, who photographed the car at the Carlisle Performance & Style show last weekend, remembers the owner saying it was a Retrokits creation, and it does look like a variant on this kit. Definitely nothing subtle about it. What do you think?

Im sorry to whoever made this but you had a great idea, but when it comes to bringin the past to the future to something that has already done it, its hard to top it. This would look soo much better if it was blended into the car more. Like if the nose didnt stick out so far and also what would help is to alter the headlights and the whole front clip to look more 2010. Chevy did a great job doing this but there are other ways to make it look good also. I will say tho that you did a great job makin the car accessible to that clip. I still give you major props.

they should have left it classic. when you do too much to classic cars it just turns out like this one.

They were just trying to make it look like a late 60′s Camaro. Which it isn’t. Nice try though. The proportions just make it look strange.

I love reading the comments about how this sucks, but the new camaro is so plastic it might as well be made by honda hahaha….all they need from the factory are clear corners and altezza tails hahaha wow, go back to your fart cans kiddies

It looks pretty cool… some great fabrication work by whoever built it but it looks like the grill is too small for the car if everything was the right size it would look better

*the world’s most bizarre looking car*. That’s what I meant to say.

dwright71
May 15, 2010 at 4:35 pm

“It game me something to look at”. Hmmmmm, I think what Dmoore420 meant to say was “It GAVE me something to look at”. As for the car, it looks like if a ’73 Mustang and a ’70 Javelin got together and had an offspring, this is what you would get, the world’s bizarre looking car(or the world’s ugliest looking offspring).

this looks better…instead of the round lights it has the 3 broken up square ones on the side of the grill

i wonder if they put the old style ass end on there to that would be pretty sweet

May 14, 2010 at 6:44 pm

I like it. The hood is a little over arching though. More so in the larger picture up top, but the smaller pic out on the car domain landing page it didn’t look so puffy. Ever see the original design for the new version charger? Looked exactly like the old 69 charger rear roof deck and pillars.

Leave the 1969 a 1969 Camaro and a 2010 Camaro a 2010 Camaro, you put the 2 years together and it just will not work. The nestalgia of the new Camaro works because it is reminisant of the 1rst Gen Camaro but the proportions are not the same so you just end up with a Frankinstine Camaro that looks like an AMX. FAIL

xsuperjoex the link you posted is better but over its still a FAIL its aint cutting it!

Guys…this is the same kit as this http://www.camaro5.com/forums/camarogarage/4529/frontcomp.jpg which looks lovely! The problem with this car is the headlight doors are open so it’s really messing up your perception. You can see the 3 thick gray stripes on the right and left side of the grill; those are the headlight doors. This is is a combo of a few things wrong:
1. No stripes
2. Headlight doors are open and tucked in behind the grill
3. Bad camera angle

krush454
May 14, 2010 at 3:02 pm

so the body kit came with the drugs that make you think its nice right?

I don’t like it. Its fugly……..realy

never kit something that’s riding 2′ off the ground, it never works.

Willbr459
May 13, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Now that’s different, it would not look so bad if it was done to scale. The front end is to narrow, to tall, and the grille is too big for the front. I say let’s not and say we did on this one guys!

U G L Y!!!! Stop the damn retro kits! If you want a retro look, buy a damn retro car! Aaaaagh! Enough ranting for today.

May 13, 2010 at 10:04 am

That is just plain ugly. Why do that to a nice looking car?

Well, It is definitely ugly, I can say that for sure.

May 13, 2010 at 8:33 am

When I scrolled down to see the picture, the first thing that popped into my head was “’71 Javelin.”

SouthernGuy8503
May 13, 2010 at 7:10 am

if they did away with the chrome bumper and did something with the extra SS grille slit right below the hood then it wouldn’t look to bad. that bumper of course just don’t look right on a newer car no matter what it is and the SS grille slit is a V shape that goes with the shape of the front of the hood and the stock front end shape but it doesn’t go with the straighter front end shape.
-
maybe move that SS grille slit to the end of the hood or do away with the SS grille slit and have a true cowl induction hood with the flipper door like a 70 Chevy Chevelle SS had. do something with those 2 things then it wouldn’t look half bad.
-
i clicked the link and it has the RS package with the hideaway headlights and the front looks a little better with the headlight covers over the headlights, if you look close enough you can see the end of the passenger side cover between the headlight and grille

eww I don’t like it at all. It looks bloated.

ChAMbER_CUStOMS
May 13, 2010 at 5:19 am

If the back was more slanted instead of dropping then a flat trunk it would look like an AMX, But it is a retro camaro FAIL….I wish there were new AMX’s :(

highspeedhijinks
May 13, 2010 at 4:09 am

I honestly thought the same thing when I looked at it. Well now we know what a modern day AMX would look like haha.
