TeamGOAT – Fontana to Flagstaff

By Melissa Duchsherer

TeamGOAT

We got to Fontana close to 8:00 am. There were probably about four teams already there! We waited until 9:00 for the last teams to arrive, with a total of 14 teams! TeamGOAT has an inflatable goat which we had everyone sign. I also made some breast cancer ribbons which I handed out to each member of the teams that were there. I will hand out the rest once we hit Amarillo! We all picked our started numbers that are on some pretty bad ass key chains. We then lined up and got ready to go! TeamGOAT headed out of Fontana at 9:28 this morning!

Team Camaro – First Leg of the Route 66 Rally

By Robby DeGraff

Well the first official leg of the rally has been completed, from Joliet Illinois to Rolla, Missouri. While asleep at 7am, we got our requested wake up call from the Motel 6 front desk and got the day off rolling. Before we get into the rally leg, lets talk about the Motel 6 and how it might be the biggest disappointment in motel chains. Ok so we all know that Motel 6’s tagline is “We’ll leave the light on for you,” but when we arrived at this motel last night at like 10:30pm…..they left the light on, but didn’t leave us any shampoo, working internet, bath towels, and the usual motel hotel conveniences. Not to mention, the hallway was orange and reminded us of a dimly lit hotel in The Shining. The room itself had like bamboo floors, an upscale bathroom, my partner John and I were just confused haha. Now, on to day one of the rally: the first day was an adrenalin rushed successes. We packed up and headed out to the back parking lot and saw the wide variety of cars competing with us.

Boss 302 Mustang Confirmed, Could Be a 2011 or 2012 Model

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Rumors of a street-legal Boss 302 Mustang have been circulating for months and they really kicked into high gear when GM made the announcement that a Camaro Z28 is in the pipeline. Details are still sketchy and no formal horsepower numbers have been released, but we’re sure there’s going to be a line of Ford faithfuls with cash in hand once these babies get produced.

TheMustangNews.com is reporting that the Boss model would receive a revised intake manifold and “other modifications” to bump horsepower over base GTs. According to their story, the Boss 302R race cars are cranking out 450 hp so we’d expect the production engine, with emission controls and other legally necessary items to be somewhere in the 425-430hp range, but who the hell really knows?

The subtle hint that was given about the car came from Mark Fields, Ford’s President of the Americas during a dealer meeting. He told those in attendance that the boys back in Dearborn were cooking up a new special edition of the Mustang that he couldn’t directly comment on, then a 1970 Boss 302 rolled across the stage.

We’ll take ours in the same grabber orange Parnelli Jones and his cohorts tore up Trans-Am with back in the early 1970s.

Team Scion – Day 1

By Jeremiah Stiable

bullfroger89

Today was the first day of the Route 66 Rally. Receiving adequate rest, we woke up early to prepare. After the car was washed and ready, we headed to the Route 66 Raceway. The Raceway would be our official start line for the first day.

After signing a waiver, we were allowed to enter the Route 66 Raceway parking lot. Everyone was taking pictures and socializing before filing into starting position. While we were in line waiting, we received our checkpoint cards for the day. Listed were the three checkpoints to be visited before the finish line in Rolla, MO. The checkpoints for the first day in order were Ambler-Becker Texaco Gas Station, Memory Lane, and Lincoln’s Tomb.

Jessica Rosebaum, gave an arm drop for pairs of cars to leave the staging area. We waited patiently for our times to be recorded and let loose. Some cars turned right while some cars turned left. We turned left.

Turning left was the right way and we arrived at our first checkpoint (Texaco Gas Station) quickly and easily.

What’s Your Least Favorite Driving Habit?

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Let’s all forget for a moment that we’re probably not nearly as good behind the wheel as we all think we are, and focus unashamed on other people’s failings. For my part, I’m constantly monitoring the cars around me on the road for what I call “lane selection fail”–the idea on the part of some drivers that those dotted white lines somehow don’t apply to them. It seems that the number of drivers who blitheringly attempt to merge into my ride on a daily basis has been compounded by the growing percentage of people who are twiddling on their cell phones while simultaneously attempting to drive. So I consider it a necessity to remain ultra-vigilant against lane-wanderers, though it still bugs me every time I see people who are apparently too distracted or too important to stay in their own lane and not cause a wreck. I mean, how difficult is it, really?

How about you? What’s your biggest traffic pet peeve, or the habit that bugs you most when you see it in other drivers?

The list as it stands may in fact surprise you as there are a few cars here that you may not have thought. One reason is they may have two to many doors, the other is that they’re all pretty damn expensive. Either way though, presented here for you are 5 great sports cars that can be had for $75k or Less. Oh yea… and just for the fun of it I figured I’d throw in some video so could see what I mean.

He’s a Winner in My Book

For drama, it’s hard to beat crossing the finish line upside down and on fire, but Kyle Prokup definitely gets points for style. After he came into the last turn a little too hot during a kart race in the Mid-West, he pulled it out and managed to roll across the line backwards. Who cares what place he came in?  Bravo, Kyle.
