Challenger Plays Cop Car Dress-Up

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

There’s this dealership in Winnipeg, Canada that builds some really nice one-off cop cars. But the sad part is, immediately after they’re sold at a for-charity auction, they’re stripped of all their WPD goodies. Though it’s hard to understand shelling out for a badass cop car that is shortly thereafter going to be disrobed of everything that makes it a badass cop car, at least during this Challenger’s brief reign of glory, it gets to showcase what a hot highway pursuit vehicle it would make. Basketcase Rescue: Cordoba Saved From Sinking Into Swamp

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Holden’s ’76 Cordoba sat on brand new wheels and tires for two years out in the woods after he bought it, but when it started sinking into the ground, he decided it was time to get around to restoring it. Pretty much everything you ever needed to know about rust repair and sheetmetal work is photodocumented on his epic ride page. Looks like this big bad cruiser is getting pretty close to done!

Ten years ago this ’89 Civic served as Dave’s daily driver in college. Then he started autocrossing and got the modding bug. So now Dave is hoping to be invited to the 2010 Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge. Check out his ride page and if you like what you see, rate him up!

Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter Talks About the C7

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

At the recent C5/C6 Bash at the Corvette Museum, Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter talked a bit about the new C7. While he doesn’t go into specifics, he says that the new CAFE standards aren’t causing them to do anything with the next generation Vette that they wouldn’t be doing anyway. Oh, and he has a few choice words about car magazines…Via Corvette Blogger

I loved the incongruity of this tuner Golf with color-change paint sitting out in the sticks in front of an old barn. See more wacky juxtaposition, and more views of that pretty paint, on Pascal’s ride page!

Scary Road-Cone Monster

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

This creature kind of makes me think of what road-crew flaggers might have looked like in the Disney-Pixar Cars if the creators had chosen to anthropomorphize them. Student Joseph Carnevale reportedly got in trouble with the cops for this prank, though the construction company he stole the cones from just thought it was funny. Via saturnic’s livejournal.

Northeast Show Season Kicks Off with Rhinebeck 2010

By David Clarke

In the Northeast there are only a precious few months when car shows are running. After six long months of cold wintery weather, we are always happy to see the first of May roll around as it is the unofficial “opening day” for car shows here. The show season starts off with one of the better shows in the New York region simply known as Rhinebeck. Continue reading after the jump!

Fireball Dissects Tron Legacy Design

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

A cohesive movie… is cohesive on a lot of levels. Or, at least should be.

Tron Legacy seems to be shaping up to be a good example or this. All the images we’ve seen look “slick.” Watery, liquidy, smooth, contrasting. At least in the Tron World. Outside, in the real world, it’s gritty and “left over.” It’s a good contrast.

Movie design is most effective when you can emerge the viewer slowly into a world without them realizing it. The reason why Superhero movies are most interesting as you watch the superhero actually become the hero. Once he’s that, it’s a more difficult task to get the eyeballs interested.

Prepare for SLICK.
