Buddy Baker’s Race-Winning Daytona on eBay

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

It seems there’s been a crop of famous race cars on eBay lately, but the Dodge Daytona raced by NASCAR legend Buddy Baker back in the day stands out from all the overpriced never-rans and should’ve-beens that have been popping up recently. This Daytona was the car that Baker drove to victory in the 1970 Southern 500, the very race we’re going to be watching this Saturday night at Darlington Raceway. The seller says it’s been cleaned and detailed, but not restored, and that “it is just as it was last raced in 1970.” The following year, NASCAR outlawed the big hemi, and Mopar entries would’ve been running 305′s. Looks like this Number 6 got out of the game just in time. Check out the auction on eBay!

Motorcycle Leapfrog Nut Crunch (Again)

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

I’m sure there’s somebody out there who could actually pull off a motorcycle leapfrog, but booth attempts I’ve seen have ended in failure, meaning “nut crunch.” Looks like the guys in the video I posted the other day came closer than this pair of geniuses. Ouch.

Pushing the limits, this WWII veteran knows how to get down in a lowered Volvo. Drifting isn’t just for the youth, it’s for anyone that enjoys the smell of burnt rubber and the rush of sliding sideways. Read more about the WWII drifter at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Caption Contest: This Week’s Winner!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

My best buddy lands in Los Angeles tonight, and I’m pumped to show him all the great things about this amazing city. He’s from Seattle, and while I know the tacos are going to floor him, the fact that you can buy booze in the grocery store will be a revelation. Anyway, this week’s winner is tdcparts, who came up with; “Free oil changes courtesy of BP.” Bonus points for keeping it current, buddy! Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of our environmentally conscious Caption Contest!

Koenigsegg CCR Evo vs. Corvette ZR1!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

The Corvette ZR1 is no joke, but this drag race proves that it’s no match for the uber-exotic Koenigsegg CCR Evo. And while this clip is totally wicked, I kind of want to see the Swedish meatball pick on someone its own size. Like how about watching it go toe-to-toe with a Veyron or an Ultimate Aero? Those babies might be able to give it some competition.

Photo of the Day

As someone who pretty much never sees any of my own cars issued as die casts or model kits, I always have a sort of wistful appreciation of people who get to buy little versions of their rides to take pictures with. This one comes from pakisalim’s Chrysler 300C ride page. If you’ve got a cool photo you’d like to see featured, send me a PM!

VWVortex Forced to Migrate to VBulletin

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

It’s no secret that a ton of great blog stories come straight from the Car Lounge over at VWVortex, one of the biggest auto enthusiast forums out there. Well, many of you have probably noticed by now that the site is down due to a dispute over the forum software that was powering the site. The guys at VWVortex are working around the clock to migrate to VBullitin. Anyone who has experienced a software migration with their automotive forum of choice knows that this is a painful process even under the best of circumstances. Although they don’t seem to be pointing to it yet, you can find the new Car Lounge here. Good luck guys, and here’s to a speedy recovery!

Thanks to a replacment V8 from Chevy and rear axle donated by an old Jaguar XJ this is one awesome sleeper car. I would love to see any sleeprs you have seen – post them up!
