Vintage Road Test Video: the 1968 Hurst Olds
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
We’ve dug up several vintage road test videos from the classic television show, “Car and Track” during our time on the blog here, but this one may be the coolest. The 1968 Hurst Olds was an awesome car and today commands insane money on the market. This video shows one being thrashed by Jack “Doc” Watson of Hurst fame. Watson was responsible for cars like the Hemi Under Glass and you’ll hear him elude to a new project that Hurst was working on at the time. Can you say Hemi Darts and Barracudas?
As much as we love seeing these cars fry the hides in straight line action, watching them plow through the corners while host Bud Lindemann describes their wallowing performance as being “agile as a bobcat” is priceless.
Jack Watson is a rodding hero!
Faber + Water

Car Culture At Large
Last weekend, a good friend and drifter from Luxembourg, Yves Faber invited me to attend the Eschdorf European Hill Race. It rained heavily on Sunday, but I stuck a camera on the car nevertheless. The car is a fox body Mustang with a 6.1l Ford V8. Enjoy!

Well the time is almost upon us again. That’s right, Hot Rod Power Tour 2010! This year they decided to throw everyone a curve ball and start us back in the Midwest. I’m doing the whole Tour again. I have a new camera and a new car. So this year I’m really going to bring all the fun. I’ll attempt to do a blog a week about preparing for the Tour. So keep reading. If you have any questions or have any suggestions, let me know. And check out the list of stops the Tour is hitting after the jump!

Mitsubishi Eclipse Brake Failure
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
During a street race through a parking lot, a modified Mitsubishi Eclipse suffers from the common ailment of locked up brakes. Was this a bad sensor, malfunctioning hydraulics, or just good ol’ driver’s error? Chances are, it was simply junk stock brakes. Leave your thoughts below and read more about upgrading brakes at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
German Style
Atomicalex
American fans of German cars like to think of the people across the pond as somehow gifted in the style department. Uh, let me look out my window here–that would be a no. While there are some really hot cars rolling around over here, there are also some winners like this Mk2 Golf with very stylish swirly wheel covers. This could be any Wal*Mart parking lot in America. Well, except for the Espace…. I’ll have more on the style quirks of our European peeps coming up–I’m moving over there for work in July!

Motorcycle Leapfrog Nut Crunch

I generally write my own titles for blogs, but the one the user came up for this video—”Motorcycle Leapfrog Nut Crunch”—with was so perfect I just had to go with it. Now, it’s impossible to say what the hell these guys were thinking, but they might not have heard that Kobe totally faked his jump over that Aston Martin.

Ford Escort Batmobile
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
It’s an ’88 Escort hatchback chopped into a convertible, sprayed with rhinoline, and equipped with a variety of features unheard of on Escorts of this era–like a real working trunk! I dig the gnarly hood scoop, the Batman Command Console, and the angled exhaust tips (which are purportedly functional, though I think that’s the actual exhaust sticking out where the rear plate used to be). Striking fear into the hearts of New Jersey denizens everywhere it goes, it’s even piloted by a middle-aged dude who dresses up in a batsuit to battle crime at corporate picnics and little kids’ birthday parties. More pics below the jump, and read more here. Thanks to 1lowscort for the tip.
