Griot’s Garage Steps Up The Detail – New Flagship Store

By Ryan Porter

IN-N-OUT Editor

Late last year I fell in love with a car on the cover of the Griot’s Garage catalog. Wanting to know more, I ended up on the Griot‘s Garage’s blog, where I saw a story about their all new “barn find” of a building.

Now, I spend massive amounts of time in my garage, and I have a knack for taking way to much care of my car (if that’s even possible). And when Weston and I had the opportunity to tour Richard Griot’s private garage last year, I was pretty blown away. So I couldn’t wait to see what Richard Griot and his team had in store for their new building.

Continue reading after the jump to see how this “barn find” building got finished out, with build images and pictures from the big open house party over the weekend.

Today’s photo is from Adam’s ride page, and was taken at Fantasy of Flight in Florida. As someone who is constantly scheming to get my ride photographed alongside airplanes, I totally dig this.

Did the T stand for “Tank”?

By Stephanie Porteus

Introducing the first mass-produced vehicle, Ford pioneered the transition between horse & buggy and motorized street machine. The Model T was the cheapest and most quickly-assembled vehicle on the market–for $950 you could have one in any color as long as it was black–but was also unbelievably rugged. Check out this amazing archival footage to see what the Model T was capable of!

Grabbin’ Gears in a Mustang at Atco

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

How about some good old fashioned four-speed abuse Atco Raceway in New Jersey? The Mustang featured in this video sure seems like a runner as it takes no time at all for the driver to rip through the familiar H-pattern from first to fourth.

Stick shifts are in short supply when it comes to active drag racing competition anymore. Yes, lots of street cars with gear bangers show up on test and tune night, but when the competition goes up a notch, most racers follow the leader and chase down those parts, rightly or wrongly. Since that’s the case, the mighty four-speed is a dying breed at the drags because consistency is so hard to come by.

The man in the video seems like a certified professional with that gear lever. Hit the video below and have a look (and listen).

Forsberg at FD ATL

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

The Keep Drifting Fun guys, Will Roegge and Joshua Herron, released a small film featuring Chris Forsberg, his thoughts and his run down of the second round of the 2010 Formula Drift season. It’s a great insight into the mind of the 2009 Formula D champion.

The quality of films that these guys are producing are really just something else. The opening montage, the in-car shot against Sam Hubinette, and the amazing amounts of bokeh throughout the film all add up to a great piece. What I want to know is what sort of magical peanut butter Will and Josh are consuming, because I want some.

Top Five Reasons Why You Should Buy A Pace Car

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Wow. Looking around on eBay and discovering just how many pace cars are listed at any given time, it dawned on me that now is a perfect time to snap one up. Televised motorsports is in its heyday in America, and these cars are a dime a dozen–in most cases, no seller can claim that they’re rare, or that you should have to pay a lot of money to get one. So, in browsing the mind-blowing selection of pace cars on eBay, while trying to talk yourself out of placing a bid, do remind yourself of exactly why you should be buying one.

1. Racing history without the race car. Of course it would be out-of-this-world cool to own the Monte Carlo that Earnhardt drove to his first championship. Historic race cars are great, but not only do they command astronomical prices, they’re generally not practical (or legal) to drive on the street. With a pace car, you can get a vehicle that’s participated in a small but important way in racing history, but without the gallons-per-mile fuel consumption, the squirrely dry-rotted race slicks, or the prosecutable-in-50-states exhaust noise. You get to actually enjoy it.

Hit the jump for four more reasons to pull the trigger.

Tesla Partners with Toyota

By Ted Berner

GTwildfire

Maybe those of us who would want an EV will have a Tesla in the driveway some day. Tesla is breaking down more than just technical barriers recently. Daimler put in a stake of more than five percent previously, and the Department of Energy gave Tesla a loan of $465 million. But that’s the old news.

Last Thursday Tesla announced it bought a closed Toyota-GM joint venture factory near San Francisco that up to last month was making Corollas and Tacomas. That factory could produce 1/2 million vehicles per year. Tesla is seeking to add the factory’s former employees. Now, Toyota is getting into the picture.

Details are still somewhat sketchy but it looks like Toyota will be getting some Tesla technology. And it looks like Tesla is preparing to fan out into the market–extensively. They started with the small and exclusive number of Roadsters, are extending into mid-priced with the S sedan which is seems to be proceeding well, but the potential production capacity of this new Tesla plant is huge. It can pump out 1,369 cars a day. Source: Yahoo News
