Lingenfelter’s Latest Trans Am

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

Much like the first Lingenfelter 2010 Camaro-based Trans Am conversion, they’ve brilliantly managed to bring the essence of the early 1970′s Trans Am into the fifth generation.  With the Pontiac nameplate having been put to rest, the odds of a production Trans Am are slim to none, but this is one way that Pontiac lovers can keep the dream alive. Under the hood you’ll find an LSX block sporting a very appropriate 455 cid, and an impressive 11.5:1 compression resulting in a healthy output of 655 horsepower and 610 lbs ft of torque.  This badass machine is currently running with the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour.  See one more picture after the jump, and read more over at LSX TV.

Looks like the company “Rubbermade” went crazy on an already ugly ass camaro.

OK OK OK SO WHAT????? Yes its a Camaro with a defunct Pontiac themed nose and tail. Its not the first. GM has been using the same platforms and body styles on most of thier line up for years! Its common practice for most auto makers…Did you all know the 68 Mercury Cougar was based off of the Mustang platform? What about those dark years for GM when all the Buicks, Chevys and Pontiacs looke identical? Did you miss that? Go jump in your grand parents Oldsmobile Regency, Delta 88 and ask yourself if you are sitting in a Buick…
Point is…Pontiac is gone…sure….but having a car that looks like a Trans Am was exactly what people wer buying when they bought Trans Am’s years ago. They were buying a Badged Genral Motors Platform that shared more than just underpinnings….They share musch of the same designs…
Notice that those “my car is better than your car” arguments were never between Firebirds and Camaros. Thats because…unlike you…those guys back then were well aware that they were driving the same car!
Either you like the TA mods or you dont. Get over the fact that it is really a Camaro….WE KNOW already….

@transam66 idk about this one but they even went as far on the blue and white one as to give it an authentic blue leather interior

while i like the blue and white version better, these are some of the most beautiful trans ams ever produced and in my opinion one of the only remakes of an old car that hit the mark perfectly. to all those saying its just a camaro with a trans am nose and boo hoo this and boo hoo that, idk how much car knowledge you have, but it doesnt take much to know thats how they were for 23 years anyway so what the hell is the differnce now? the trans am firebird has always been based off the camaro as far as the body goes, but there hasnt been a real pontiac motor since 1979 so to a real pontiac purist pontiac was dead along time ago. these are bad ass t/a’s and i wish they’d produce 30 million more just like it

I LOVE the design and i’ve seen several different variations of this car. But there are a few things I hate about them.

1. Above all else what’s the car under? A Camaro…Step inside and you still have a camaro looking interior..EVEN with the “pontiac” style upgrades. Since GM doesn’t want to make the car for everyone people interested have to buy the after market addons to do themselves or to purchase the car complete from at least 2 different makers I know of.

2. Having owned GM all my life, several cars, 81 trans-am X2, 83 monte Carlo, Capri, chevette, and my current 2003 monte carlo….I have to say that GM NOW still has many many problems with their cars. Including the defective piece of crap passlock and passlock 2. Would I ever buy this car? NO! HELL NO! I would never touch a GM again. Several people I know of, don’t know “forums” are having problems with their impala’s, monte carlo’s and others alike. Gm knows about this, denies the problem “just like they did with the head gaskets which they were sued for.

So thats my two cents worth. GM needs to pull their heads out of their rear-ends and start making good cars, quality cars and give the people what they want. I.e MAKE the firebird/trans-am and do much more for quality testing.

Sweet looking ride, but ford or honda gets my business next time around.

OMG Stop doing this stuff to Cameros… Sorry folks Pontiac is never coming back. Let their cars be classic and don’t butcher Chevy cars.

Although that is my better judgment, this does look good. It needs to not be a Camero with a different front end, but the front end does look like it was put together well.

But I repeat PLEASE stop doing this to Cameros…

Nice conversion, I would however prefer the black with gold bird color scheme.
