Damaged Bolt Hole Repair Cheat Sheet
By Ted Berner
GTwildfire
In the course of preparing the V6 destined for the Fiero, I found it had three broken header bolts. Two of the holes ended up pretty messed up because the easy outs, and everything else I threw at the broken bits, did not work well. I had to make pretty large holes to get them clean enough for tapping, so I used the method described in the diagram below–install an oversized bolt and then make that the sleeve for the new correct-sized bolt that you tap and thread into its center. It worked beautifully, and if there’s ever a problem with these holes in the future, the resulting threaded sleeves can likely be removed pretty easily, and a replacement prepped using the same method.

Ever Find Weird Stuff In Old Car Mags?
By Jen Dunnaway

Dan Strohl over at Hemmings was leafing through the August 1978 issue of their publication and was getting a kick out of all the fantastic Malaise Era oddities in the classifieds. Like this Brubaker Box, listed alongside a one-off Corvette wagon and a built-from-scratch 50′s custom made with body panels from three different cars. Imagine opening up a magazine and finding such a menagerie of one-of-a-kind weirdness, rather than today’s endless pages of glossy ads for cheap wheels and snake-oil additives. The very idea of car mags is itself getting to be a bit antiquated, so perhaps appropriately, browsing over a musty stack of back issues can often yield more fascination per page-turn than what’s currently on the newsstands. How about you–ever run across weird and forgotten rides when you’re going through your back issues?

A Buick That’s Had Some Eye Surgery

When we saw this photo, originally posted by BangShift.com forum member Smack, we had to share it with the world. According to Smack, this car was sitting at a center where driver’s license testing takes place and apparently they were getting ready to take this baby out on the road!
Massachusetts has these wacky laws that require the car that you take your license test in to actually be road legal. This state…well apparently not.

Ford Escort Crashes Through Garage
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
When a Ford Escort is lodged into a garage like a square peg in a round hole, it’s pretty obvious someone was speeding. How fast were they going? That is unknown, but it’s safe to estimate it’s well over the posted limit. How fast do you think the Escort was going when it lost control and became one with a garage? Comment below. Read more about the wreck at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
Where’s the Indy Car Spirit?
By Chris Trout

Stratospheric compression, ear-splitting RPM, mind-melting horsepower, and rock-solid reliability make Honda Indy Car engines breathtakingly impressive. Add to those features a relatively tiny 3.5 liter displacement limit and natural aspiration, and the word “impressive” only begins to paint the masterpiece that Honda has created. Indy Car engines are currently manufactured exclusively by Honda, who seems to be doing an incredible job.
The lightweight and efficient design makes the 3.5 liter Honda V8 capable of 650 horsepower using methanol, and able to push a carbon-fiber-and-kevlar Indy Car around at above 200 mph. There is no doubt that accomplishment goes a long way toward building Honda’s brand equity. What I fail to understand is the incongruence between something as masterfully performance engineered as an Indy Car engine with their current product line. Honda’s current offerings don’t feature a single sports car, or supercar. Where can the consumer find the spirit of Indy Car in the product line? Read more…
