Rally Car vs. Dirt Bike

By Michael Berenis

At the first stage of Rally De Portugal, Loeb almost took out a vigilante dirt biker during his run. Read more about wrong way WRC traffic at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

In Pieces

By Chris Bicknell

Bick66

The feeling you get from an image of your car in pieces varies greatly depending on the car and the reason it’s been taken apart in the first place. For me, images of my 1966 Impala Convertible all apart give me a renewed sense of accomplishment and satisfaction every time I see them. I even have pictures taken during the car’s restoration hanging on my office wall. Yesterday I saw my 2005 Corvette in pieces for the first time–but the reason wasn’t some exciting tear-down and build, but instead, a stupid accident. Last week I had some jerk with no issuance merge into me and then take off without leaving any information. Thankfully it’s in the skilled hands at Corvettes of Auburn and my uninsured motorist insurance is picking up the tab. I enjoyed watching the car get torn down but nonetheless I’d rather it could’ve stayed in one piece.

How about you? Has your car ever been in pieces? Was it a happy occasion or a sore memory?

NASCAR Hall of Fame

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

After the races in Charlotte last weekend, I found myself with enough time to kill before my flight home to go check out the new NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. It just opened May 11th, with the inaugural Class of 2010 inducted only this last week, and it was like the paint was still drying on the soaring walls and freshly-restored race cars. NASCAR’s new monument to its brightest stars is, in a word, gorgeous.

NASCAR coverage brought to you by Valvoline Engine Guarantee–the first and only motor oil in the industry that will guarantee your engine up to 300,000 miles. *Registration required, some limitations apply.

Cheap Paint Worth the Effort?

By David Belau

Last summer my 1992 Dakota looked like just about every other neglected 1992 Dakota out there–terrible. Its paint was coming off in sheets. Coworkers complained that after parking next to me during a windy day, their own car received a new paint job.

After reading this thread on Moparts.com about Rustoleum, I decided to give it a try. I had never painted a car before, so how did it turn out? Continue reading after the jump!

Gothic architecture isn’t something you’d expect to go well with a Hyundai Tiburon, but somehow the combo ends up  being very pleasing to the eye, no? See more shots on Red’s ride page.

Batmobile on Craigslist

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Ok, obviously it’s not the real Batmobile–it’s someone’s rough interpretation of the Batmobile, based on a wrecked 1994 Pontiac Grand Am. Price seems a bit steep at $600, but I’m guessing that he’s willing to entertain offers. Build pics and the text from the Ann Arbor Craigslist ad after the jump. Via Jalopnik

The Hot Rod Power Tour 2010 is Less Than a Week Away

By Ryan Brutt

Well there is less than one week until Power Tour 2010. I spent today cleaning up the interior of the Challenger, conditioning the leather, vacuuming the carpets, etc. I also added the hood stripe and the extension side stripes on the Challenger. That should make it a little different then the other 99% of Challengers on the Tour. I also picked up a new Atlas as my last one got ruined. I hate GPS. Check out the Hot Rod Power Tour directions.

Also to get the most up to date information on the Tour, please follow them on their twitter site. And Chip Foose will be at the first stop in Newton, IA. I’m a big personal fan and can not wait to see him in person, even if I do just get his autograph.

I came up with a little idea, I’m going to have a balloon attached to my car. Something easy to see and noticeable. I don’t know what it will be, but when I find it I will post it up here and let you know.

Kick The Tires And Light The Fires

By Jen Dunnaway

I was at this hot rod party out in the cornfields of upstate New York once when this dude with flamethrowers on his ’55 Chevy backed up against a gasoline-saturated brush pile and lit it off. The detonation and resulting fallout left burn spots on primer, headers, and clothing alike, and it was a wonder it didn’t start a raging wildfire. This bunch of Euro hipsters sitting around an Ikea-perfect campfire and struggling to light it up with a two-stroke Trabant motor seems quaint by comparison, and a lot more safe. Cute, too.
