Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back But Can’t Because Their Brands No Longer Exist
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
We got a ton of comments on the list of “Top Ten Vehicles That Need to Come Back”. I didn’t include any of the cars below cause they are all from dead brands. But if we lived in an alternate universe, then yes, all of these rides would need to come back! See the rest of the list after the jump!
Pontiac Trans Am
Duh.

AMC Gremlin
Actually, a ton of AMCs should come back. Remember theĀ April Fools feature in Hot Rod?

Plymouth ‘Cuda
Ok, so Mr. Norm is building one, but still…

Plymouth Road Runner
Cause one Plymouth isn’t enough.

Oldsmobile 442
This pic is from Chip’s ride page.

Mercury Cougar
Would have been a total no brainer to base it on the S197 Mustang.

Edsel Citation Convertible
This look is totally here to stay.

International Scout
Coolest 4×4 ever. Pic is from Eric’s ride page.

Studebaker Starlight Coupe
Cause we need another car with a wrap-around rear window, and the Cube doesn’t count!

Tucker
Ahead of its time…

Pontiac, or at least the Trans Am should not be on this list. Unlike all others, 85% of the Trans Am’s DNA is still alive in the new Camaro. Unlike all the others, this model could actually survive the loss of its brand. It could!

buuuuuut NOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo! ewww we haad to kill off Pontiac the Trans Am just caaaan’t do that.
-
So, the result which has been very predictable is that the aftermarket is making up for GM’s bad decision-making. Not like that hasn’t happened before.
-
What was that, like the 1,000th time I’ve beat on GM for this? Anyone keeping count?

Yeah the Cougar and the Chrysler muscle cars would be cool. The Gremlin would be cool with a SRT-4 engine in it and front wheel drive but the old school body. Make it in fiberglass or something so its really light.

The Hemi’cuda, the olds 442, and the cougar yes, the roadrunner, im not a fan of the flash on the car. maybe if it was kept flat black with bare minimum exterior cues than i would say yes. the trans am…the duck tail spoiler looks like an after thought and change those fugly wheels. the international oh yeah. that looks sweet, same with the gremlin. the rest, leave them dead.

I have to say the Firebird, road runner and Gremlin are the top 3 on my list.

Steve: yes, a modern retrostyled Gremlin (or better yet, a Pacer: http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_0804_amc_concept_cars/photo_06.html ) are the only two things in the universe that could ever convince me to buy a new car. But the Tucker? You can’t not love the Tucker.

that Tucker…WOW. what a timeless automobile. in fact all the last 4. a convertible challenger with a different grill does not a cuda make.

Jen – thought you’d for sure pick the AMC lol

I wouldn’t mind having the International Scout but it’s hard to choose between the Trans Am, Cude and the Roadrunner for modern muscle.

Edsel sales proved that it wasn’t here to stay. I agree the Firebird, Cuda, Roadrunner, 442, Gremlin, Scout, and Cougar would be cool but thats about as much as I agree with this blog
