No Tailgating: Holden Ute Recall

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

It’s nice to see car makers that are proactive when faults are found with their cars. Unlike the recent example set by Toyota, it’s good to know that you can still count on some organisations to do the right thing, and save themselves a heap of trouble in the process. Australia’s Holden has recently announced a recall of 34,000 utes as there is the possibility that their tailgates might open unexpectedly while in motion. The chances that this will actually happen to anyone are slim, but in the event that it did, it could pose some obvious hazards to anyone driving behind the defective vehicle. 2011 Corvette Commercial

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Good news! Despite the sour economy and everyone shoving green down our throats, our good friends in Kentucky are still hardcore into automotive rocketry. The Corvette might not be capable of space travel, but one WOT pull in a 638 horsepower ZR1 will make you feel like an astronaut. How long with the Corvette live? I hope forever. NASCAR Transformers Spied in Chicago

By Chris Bicknell

It looks as though the Decepticons have found a new disguise for the upcoming Transformers 3 movie, scheduled for release in 2012. These wild NASCAR-impersonating robots from outer space were seen tearing up the streets of Chicago during filming for the anticipated blockbuster this past weekend. Chevrolet’s presence has been strong throughout the recent popular Hollywood recreation of the 1980′s cartoon series, most notably with Bumble Bee, the yellow and black concept Camaro and the more recent Corvette Stingray concept, both of which were sighted as well during the Chicago shoot. So it’s no surprise that all three of the NASCAR themed stunt-cars are modeled after Chevy-sponsored teams. Check out more pictures after the jump, and see the full story at seibertron.com.

New German Car for Me

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

If there was ever a sign from above, I think I got it. Within a week of arriving in Germany, I bought a car. You guessed it–another blue Passat wagon. This one is slightly less-used than my one in Detroit: it’s got 145K kilometers on it instead of 141K miles. The cool features include a 98hp TDi engine with the normal German 5sp (0.668 5th – holy overdrive, Batman!), the OEM in-dash navi headunit, Climatronic, and cloth heated seats. The WTF features include power windows up front with crank windows in the back. I think I will have to address the suspension and 15″ wheels regardless of whether I decide to keep it long term–they make for a really soft ride. My husband is already talking about exchanging parts with my wagon back at home. Does that mean he’s finally ready to mod on his own?? Yikes!

Buyer Beware: Fat Damage

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

There’s basically no way to discuss this without being wildly offensive, so my apologies in advance to anyone who’s sensitive on this topic. Please note: I do not bear any ill will toward fat people, nor is this an anti-fat rant. I was reminded, however, the other day when I saw a familiar K-car convertible with the top down, sagging a bit on the driver’s side suspension, a huge dude at the wheel with one arm flung over the passenger seat, that there are certain perils inherent in buying a car that’s been previously enjoyed by a seriously super-sized owner. The most obvious issue is going to be damage to the seat, and possibly the armrest and interior door trim, which isn’t that much of a big deal–of course, on any older car, the driver’s side is going to be more thrashed than the passenger’s is anyway. I bought my AMC Eagle from a guy whose portly wife regularly drove it, and I pretty quickly had to swap out the deflated driver’s seat for a junkyard replacement. Problem solved. With littler and less sturdy cars, however, I can’t help thinking there could be larger (sorry!) issues at play. Read on…

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

To celebrate the spectacular results achieved this season by the Sumo Power GT-Rs, we’ve put together a five-image desktop pack for you all. The #23 car of Michael Krumm / Peter Dumbreck leads a pack of Lamborghinis and Maseratis. Then we’ve got a beautiful rear-view of the GT-R… followed by the #22 car of Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes. We’ve got a nice shot of the #22 car resting up after a long day of qualifying and racing. Finally, the heart of both cars: a Nismo VK56DE. The 5.6L V8 engine produces 600 normally aspirated horsepower exclusively to the rear wheels.

Head over to the Speedhunters for hi-res versions of all the aforementioned eye candy.

Saving Drag Racing History: The Super Mustang

By Mark Gearhart

powerTV Media

When the Ford Mustang first hit the streets in 1964, few people realized what a performance icon it would soon become. But the idea of putting a V8 engine in a small coupe did much to revolutionize the racing world as it did change the consumer market for muscle cars.
