Why TV Reporters Don’t Drive Dump Trucks
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
There are few things we love more than good television news bloopers. When over-zealous, smarmy reporters get a dose of their own medicine on camera, it is pure gold. In what could be the single greatest film clip involving on old Ford F600 dump truck and either liquid animal guts or animal refuse ever, a reporter learns the dangers of hard braking.
Pay close attention right up to the end. The background laughter makes the whole clip.
Time Machine: 1967 United States Grand Prix
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
Let’s all jump in the CarDomain time machine and take a trip to Watkins Glen, 1967. It’s the day of the United States Grand Prix, and we are about to witness an extraordinary finish. Limping in to the finish with a busted suspension, the winner sought victory lane seconds ahead of his team mate in second place. Think these old timer’s are slow? Try averaging 125 mph around Watkins Glen and then we’ll talk. Read more about the historical event at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
Best of 1973, Unfortunately At Crack-Pipe Prices
By Jen Dunnaway

I guess this shouldn’t be surprising, but I’ve been noticing a ton of really nice-condition 70′s cars for sale lately, but certainly not for 70′s-car prices. If you go on your local Craigslist and simply enter your desired year in the search under “Cars and Trucks”, you can get a pretty good idea of the range of stuff that’s in your area. My search for “1973″ turned up this mint-condition Mercury Cougar XR7. I want it, but not for 6000 bucks! There was also this beautiful mildly-cammed Centurion, which Rob swears should be a 1200-dollar car because of its four doors, for $2900–I think the engine rebuild and the performance goodies alone make it worth it–and this gorgeous 460 cu-in Ranchero for an unheard-of $8500. Why is everyone trying to offload undesirable 70′s rides at Barret-Jackson premiums all of a sudden? To search a particular year nationally on craigslist, go to Google and enter exactly this in the search window: site:craigslist.org 1973. What year(s) are you searching and what kind of cool stuff have you found?

Grand-Am Rolex Cars At Daytona
By Jen Dunnaway

While at Daytona for the NASCAR race weekend, I got a bit of a break in the middle of the day Saturday to sit in the almost-deserted stands with a couple of the Dodge boys and snap a few pics of the Rolex cars running their 250-mile race, which ran on Daytona’s inner road course as well as its high-banked tri-oval. A lot of race fans are still baffled that Chevrolet declined to build a NASCAR Camaro, letting the new Challenger and Mustang race cars handily steal the spotlight. Though the NASCAR version would necessarily have a more templatized body and air dam, this Rolex Series car gives a sense of what a Nationwide Series Camaro should have looked like running the superspeedway this weekend. Hit the jump for a few more pics from of the Rolex Series race from behind Daytona’s burly catch fence.

I think the smile, not the smoke, is what makes this burnout pic great. See Tania and Michael’s ride page for more.

Tire Review: Continental Extreme Contact DW
By Mike Musto
RideLust.com
Earlier this year I took part in the One Lap of America, a combination road rally / track event that takes competitors on a 3500 mile journey to some of the best racetracks in the United States. This event will test not only your stamina and endurance but every single part on your car. It’s long, it’s tough and it’s probably the most fun you’ll have on four wheels. When prepping the car for this event one of the biggest decisions that I had to make was tire choice. I needed a max summer performance tire that could handle the rigors of 9 days of hardcore track duty, 3500 miles of open road and perform well in both the wet and dry. In the past I’ve run Nitto NT555′s, Goodyear Eagle F1′s, Michelin Pilot Sports and Michelin PS2s. These were all good tires but each one had some inherent drawbacks.
