By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Here’s a new video of the famous White Zombie (an electric-powered 72 Datsun 1200) running the quarter in 10.4 (and leaving a GTR behind in the process). Via Jalopnik

Great find! Although I bet there isn’t much difference in $$$$ invested in either ride!!! Still Would love to see EV Tech reach more mainstream, anybody remember the Wrightspeed car? Now there is a good matchup!

GT – I agree with that but i think the problem is just keeping it charged up as you say and the EV cars I’ve seen just had a shit load of car batteries which is a lot of weight and a lot of different connections. More batteries is more batteries that could just get messed up or go bad to be a weak link. I kind of know since i helped a little bit with an EV Chevy S10 at my high school when i went, actually just a little my SR year so in 2003. So a company has to figure out a way to be able to keep it charged without adding a shit load of weight while also not costing too much. Right now i think GM’s Chevy Volt will be the best out especially if you do mostly short hauls. if you drive less than 40 miles round trip to work and back thats 0 gallons of gas used to go to work all week. But the only question is how much electricity has to be use to keep it recharged while at home, also the Volt won’t be using Lithium Ion batteries like other electric cars.

You can’t argue with this demonstration, lol. TORQUE from zero. It wasn’t even a concept, and everything – all the needed technology is already developed and ready – for electric cars to be on the street, recharging fully in the time (or less than the time) it takes to fill the tank.

It’s a matter of one automaker to offer an EV with this technology and stop this Lithium Ion laptop battery nonsense. C’mon GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mini, Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguar and all the rest. SOMEBODY STEP UP TO THE PLATE and make an EV that won’t fast charge to 85% in 15 minutes. Your good enough is NOT good enough.

It’s an awesome vid, but if I had to bet on a race like this, I’d go with electric every time. The answer is simple: Electric motors have the most torque at 0rpms. Gas engines, not so much. But, where electric falls short is in top end speed. Not only do they lose torque the higher they rev, but they just don’t have the HP necessary to fight wind resistance at speeds above 100mph. So, I guess the bottom line is EV’s are great for short sprints, but don’t expect to win in say a standing mile.
