Video: Fastlane’s Turbo 5.0 2011 Mustang Makes 543 RWHP

By Mark Gearhart

powerTV Media

The new 5.0 liter engine from Ford is proving to be a hot commodity among aftermarket shops. By itself the engine makes 412 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque. Let a bunch of aftermarket specialists at it and you better be prepared for some seriously impressive torque numbers. And the engine is surprising even the most optimistic engineers.

Why just 6 psi you ask? Well the new 5.0 has a very high compression of 11.0:1. Forced induction is a fan of low compression engines (usually around 9.0:1 or even lower) which allows the engine to run higher psi. For an otherwise stock engine though, those are some great numbers. Fastlane makes a similar kit for the 2010 Camaro, which through an automatic transmission makes around 530 whp. That 5.0 looks better and better every day.

Burnout Bandit Busted By Thermal-Imaging Chopper

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Check out this following video of a suburban hoon being tracked by an Australian police helicopter using the latest thermal imaging technology. You can see everything from the burning tires, hot engine bay, and even a dude taking a leak at 3:20! But do donuts really justify the cost of the chopper? Read more at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Whatever your personal feelings about lowriders, the genre undeniably deserves props for being one of the longest-running current enthusiast cultures out there. And DJ Xscape’s candy-green Cutlass is an exceedingly photogenic example of its segment. See more at his ride page!

Chris van der Drift Crash at Brands-Hatch

By Karan Singh

StreetFire.net

Chris van der Drift violently crashed his car last week at the Superleague Formula 2010 Brands-Hatch race. Amazingly, he survived with “only” a broken ankle, a cracked shoulder blade, a dislocated shoulder, and a couple of broken ribs. Lucky guy, I guess. Watch as his car goes airborne and crashes into the bridge above and catches ablaze.

Chrysler Touring, German Style

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

Jen posted up that great vid of the LX Fest yesterday, and what do I run into on the way to work? This Chrysler Touring (that’s a Magnum to the rest of us) got worked over by someone who really likes red trim. Minus the cheesy shark graphics, it’s pretty decent, with a lot of attention to detail. Check out the back side after the jump.

Just… Not… Right

By Jen Dunnaway

The spectacle of this Gulf Racing livery DeLorean, at the very least, settles one thing: this iconic paint scheme, which I’d briefly considered, will not work on my diesel Escort. In fact, the only car I’ve every really thought the garish Sunny-D-and-baby-blue warpaint looks right on is the Ford GT40. Mercifully, the color scheme is actually a vinyl wrap, which could presumably be peeled off and the original bare stainless steel cleaned up. And the DeLorean is currently for sale on eBay. Take a look!

Watch a Monster Climb Pikes Peak

By David Clarke

highspeedhijinks

So you have exactly 11 minutes and 35 seconds to kill today and you’re looking for the visual equivalent of chugging a cup of coffee to keep you awake. Why not fill it with an awesome dirt-sliding, barrier-skimming, holy-crap-that’s-a-huge-cliff type video? Well I have just the video for you. This is Falken Tire’s coverage of “Monster” Tajima’s Pikes Peak run in his time attack Suzuki SX4. Some how his engine builder managed to wring 897hp and 654lbft of torque out of a 3.1 litre twin turbo. Which, as it turns out, is just enough horsepower to climb a 15,000ft mountain face in just over 10 minutes. You’re welcome!

Old-School Ford Transit

By Jen Dunnaway

Having developed a bit of a dorky crush on the new Ford Transit Connect, I was thrilled to find this great pic of one of the compact utility hauler’s vintage predecessors. It was snapped at Ford Fair in Northampton, a gathering of over 3500 UK Fords, and there’s a ton more beautiful photos from the meet at Speedhunters: Part 1 and Part 2.
