Lancia Stratos Headed For Production?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

When pics of this new Stratos first turned up last week everyone got excited. Then word came out it was a one-off being built for a wealthy industrialist. But now Car and Driver is reporting that this new Stratos is most likely headed for production, though “we’ll be looking at Maserati money, not Subaru WRX competition.” Well, if it does happen, I sure hope we see it over here…

Check out the old school Stratos video after the jump!

We can all remember the first time we were taken for a ride in a fast car: from that point on, we would forever be automotive enthusiasts. Watch that moment unfold as Tommy goes for a ride in his dad’s badass Caterham R500. We want his dad to adopt us if it means rides in cars like that!

Rare Pierce to Grace Pebble Beach

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Heading to Pebble Beach this Sunday? This just in: An original, unrestored 1908 Pierce Great Arrow–from Natural History Museum’s Gardena, California, facility–has been selected to appear at the August 15 Concours d’Elegance. After the concours, this one-of-a-kind Pierce will be returned to the Gardena facility, which until now has been closed to the public. If you can’t get to Pebble to view the Pierce Arrow, there’s good news: The museum will opens its doors in October for monthly “behind the scenes tours.” This means that visitors will also be able to catch a glimpse of more than 75 other vehicles within the collection, including a 1932 Duesenberg, 1917 Woods Dual Power Coupe gas-electric hybrid and a Helms Bakery van, as well as a 1909 Case steam traction engine. Dodge just posted this video on their Facebook page. Great summary of one very cool car show, featuring a lot of enthusiasts talking about their Challengers, Chargers, Magnums and 300s. There’s a lot of cars here I’d love to know more about–like the SRT-8 Magnum re-skinned as a ’68 Charger. Take a look.

BDC Team Drift Weekend

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

During the long summer break between BDC Round 4 and the Knockhill final, BDC hosts a weekend event at the excellent Norfolk arena. The weekend consists of a full day of practice on the Friday followed by a non-championship competition which runs late into Saturday night. The highlight of the weekend is a team drift competition which takes place on the Sunday. The tight confines of the Norfolk track always produce spectacular battles, with no pressure of points and championship tables the BDC weekender is a highlight of the drift calender. Take a look, we’ve got a ton of fantastic pics at Speeedhunters.

Lamborghini Gallardo Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

When comparing modified beasts of European lore, many aspects of each vehicle are to be considered. Watching the following clip, what do you think is the main attribute the winner has over the loser? Both are within comparable modification levels, and the only real difference is the transmission type. Thanks to the slush-o-matic  found in the Porsche, I believe it is at a definite disadvantage over the manual transmission Lamborghini. What do you think?  Is it the driver’s fault or the difference in transmissions? Read more about the comparison at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Mint Oldsmobile, Some Rust

By Jen Dunnaway

I’ve never had to deal with serious floor-pan rust on a frame-off car before, but I’ve often been blindsided to find a relatively pristine-looking ride that’s actually rotting from the inside out. Like this alleged Hurst Olds on eBay–you’re staring right through the floor at the road!
