There’s nothing like a big, bad Cadillac, and Jro has done some amazing paint and graphics on his ’70 DeVille. See more views of the Caddy at his ride page.

Transit Connect in Geek Squad Livery

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

The Geek Squad, Best Buy’s high-profile delivery and mobile installation service, is known for choosing quirky, distinctive-looking vehicles to populate its fleet. So it’s not surprising that they’re buying up a few hundred Transit Connects to replace their oversized cargo vans, saving a pretty sizable sum in fuel costs in the process. Incidentally, the diminutive Transit Connect will provide a cute, geeky stablemate to the VW New Beetle that currently forms the bulk of the Geek Squad fleet. I wonder if they’ll buy into the battery-electric Transit once that becomes available–that’d up the geek cred a little. Via Family Car Guide.

Or how about a coupe? Buick is trying to make their brand more youthful, and Car and Driver thinks coupe and convertible versions of the Regal are a real possibility. What do you think? Should Buick do it? Would they be a success? More at Car and Driver

A Smooth Drop Top

Car Culture At Large

I spotted this car last month at the Mooneyes Irwindale show. I was about to head home when I saw this sled parked just outside the main show. The first thing that caught my eye was the color – a unique blend of olive and gold semi-gloss. Even with the amount of customization, you can still tell that the car started out as a Ford – a ’62 Galaxie to be exact. Most likely the car started out as a hard top or sedan before being heavily chopped and then cut into a convertible. The thing that struck me the most were the doors, or lack thereof. While many are content with simply shaving the handles, the builder of this car has gone one step further. Continue reading at Speedhunters

The Slow Inevitable Death of American Muscle

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

I’d been consciously ignoring the attention-seeking “artist” who rigged up a machine to crush a series of perfectly decent muscle cars into each other last year, but I finally noticed a video of the destruction when it turned up on Streetfire. This member’s comment on the video much sums up my feelings on the issue: “I’d like to see a mushroom cloud in place of that museum.” What an idiotic waste.

What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Jen Dunnaway

I took my first few swipes at some bodywork, with my diesel Escort as the practice car. In hindsight, I maybe could’ve found something more replaceable and less tricky than a rear quarter of a previously wrecked unibody car to practice on–like a fender–but hey, once I started grinding off the solidified vegetable oil cement below the gas filler door from the previous owner’s greasecar experiment, I was committed. It’s been a pretty steep learning curve.

How about you? What did you do this weekend?

Cool Scout Build

By Jen Dunnaway

When Daniel got his Scout, it was your basic clapped-out family hauler. But he’s transformed it into a mild rock-crawler with some pretty decent articulation. It’s running open diffs for now, but it’s a work in progress and he’s having a great time with it. Check out his ride page!
