70′s Cars At Barrett-Jackson
By Jen Dunnaway

It looks like now is the time to snap up an inexpensive 70′s car if you’ve been wanting one, or to hang onto the one you have for a few more years, because the Barrett-Jackson crowd is beginning to get wind of the fact that they’re awesome. At the auction in Vegas this week, the expected pony- and muscle cars fetched the big bucks, like a ’72 Camaro for $30,250 (no big surprise there). But even big-boat sedans are creeping up there: a ’78 Eldorado went for $8,470 and a ’74 Caprice convertible for $7,425. This 1970 Rebel Machine, pretty collectible for an AMC, hit right in the middle with a closing price of $19,800. Meanwhile, regular AMC Rebels are currently listed on eBay for between $1,000 and $12K, and I found this running convertible on craigslist for $2,500 and this gorgeous ’69 SST for $5,500. If you’re looking to get one of the more obscure or less desirable 60s or 70s cars, it’s probably a good idea to move on it while the prices are still within the realm of sanity. I’m surprised it took this long for something like this to surface. I’m not a big fan of the Veyron to begin with, but this… well, I don’t have really anything nice to say about it. Think it’s based on a 370Z?

Early Clear Top

Spotted at LeMay, this see-through roof belongs to a 1954 Mercury Sun Valley, the first production car (along with its sister model, the Ford Skyliner) to come with such a thing. They used a green translucent plastic, and I’ve never seen one in such good shape–clear plastic made with 50′s technology tends to be pretty crackly and hazy after a lifetime of exposure, and it’s amazing how well this one has held up. Hit the jump to see the rest of the car.

Journey to Detroit, Day One: Woodward Or Bust
By David Clarke

The iconic Woodward Dream Cruise is one of the top automotive events of the year, sponsored by several of the Detroit-area towns that Woodward Ave runs through–vendors, manufacturers, and droves of people line the street to watch up to 40,000 vehicles of all kinds parade by during several days worth of festivities. This year, I wanted to be part of this iconic automotive event, but it was going to be no small feat, being that I live 650 miles from Detroit. Sounded like the perfect reason for a summer road trip. Continue reading after the jump…

Volkswagen Beetle Motorcycle?
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
The things I see in Florida never stop to amaze me. Someone in my county blended the back of a Volkswagen Beetle with the front of a motorcycle to create a VW cycle. I was so astounded by this vehicle, I had to capture it and show it to you! Is this wild or what? Read more about the VW motorcycle at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Today’s pic comes from RevRods’ 1957 Chevy page. It’s the only image they’ve loaded to the profile so far, but it’s a good one.
