The CarDomain Blog Is Moving, And You’re Coming With Us

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Well, it’s time–this town ain’t big enough for all of us, so we’re packing up our bags and skipping town. The CarDomain Blog as we know it is going to shift into neutral for now, and we will be relocating to our awesome new party pad: Autoholics!

But here’s the crazy thing: the new place we’re moving to is going to allow us to let all of YOU in as well. As bloggers. Autoholics, our new blog, is going to be like one giant nonstop party where anyone with something interesting to say about cars can post a blog. At Autoholics, you will no longer be relegated to the peanut gallery. You will no longer have to struggle with a broken comments tool, wade through stories you don’t like, or stew silently in your own unvoiced dissent. The age-old divide between author and commenter will go right out the window. At Autoholics, you will help us create the content you want and, together with CarDomain’s rich community of gearheads, make it into the blog that you want.

The CarDomain Blog has had a great run, and it’s been a deliriously good time. But we’re done with preaching to the choir. The time has come to pass the torch to the CarDomain community, whose collected automotive experience and knowledge is far more vast and varied than that of a few of us typing in an office. It’s time to get your stories out into the open. So roll up your sleeves, add Autoholics to your bookmarks, friend us on Facebook, and head on over to the new site to see what the future of your blog looks like. We need get the ball rolling over there, so post up some comments, and then jump right in and write a blog yourself! We’re totally stoked and we can’t wait to see you over there–where the beer’s always cold, we’ve got a full set of Snap-On, and we are all Autoholics. Come join the party!

I guess I don’t quite understand why people like to destroy old cars at county-fair type situations, but it’s a tradition that’s been going on as long as there’s been rubes to gape at stuff getting wrecked. In any case, this junk Pontiac might have deserved better…

Long Forgotten Pro Street Camaro Gets a New Lease On Life In Panama

By Mark Gearhart

powerTV Media

Back in May you may remember we came across a snapshot of a Pro Street style Camaro just laying unattended to down in Panama. While it peaked our interest quite a bit, it’s location, current state and the odds of its survival led us to believe the Camaro had just seen better days, and likely wouldn’t be moving under its own power anytime soon. In other words, we thought it was a goner. Well, a short time after that all the forums blew up with everyone on the hunt for more info on the car. To our surprise, after a few months of rumors and ideas circled around the car, we got word that the car was indeed getting a second chance to make not another, but its first pass down the 1/4 mile.

CarDomain Launches New Parts and Brands Pages

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

CarDomain has always been about people who modify their vehicles. We have over 900,000 rides with over 4 million installed parts from over 800 brands. But until now you couldn’t really see how they all tied together.

So here’s how it works. Go to edit your ride page, then click “Install Parts” in the left nav. If you already have installed parts listed for your ride they will show up here but without any data or pics (and if you don’t have installed parts listed you will have to add them). Click on the part you want to document and then add the price, install time and date. Add a short summary of your install and upload some pics. Then hit Save.

Fireball Kontemplates LA Auto Show Concept Contest

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

…Or something like that. I forget what the official title for this contest is because I’m too busy wondering why these rides are not in my garage? Or at least, hanging on my wall in diecast? Leaving nothing to the fact that I now have to wash my shirt from the drool.

Ok, not all of them make me drool, but some are cool. Every year, the LAAS team puts together this contest that pits design studios against each other to see who has the neato concept. Sometimes it’s schools like Art Center against CCS in Detroit. Then, they put up these big banners in the hall and we sit in front of them… drooling.

Who did what? Which team designed which vehicle? Too much information. Just observe. Observe form, shape, convexity, concavity, conbutificationalcomplexity. … What? That’s not a word? …Sure it is. Says so right here in Weebsters Dixionhairy…

Anywho… if you come to the LAAS, join me for some cool car convo.

Bill Caswell To Build Baja BMW At SEMA, We Help

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Our rally pal Bill Caswell, of BMW jumping, crashing, and hooning fame will be at the 2010 SEMA show in the Miller booth. Caswell will be transforming a BMW into a Baja 1000 competition vehicle which he will race at the off road contest in November. Since we’re chummy, Bill invited us to give him a hand welding on the car, and we gladly accepted!

He’ll be thrashing all week, but we’ll interrupt him and slow his progress around 10:30 am on Friday morning in the Miller booth. Caswell has been a devotee of Miller welders since he started burning Mig wire about 10 years ago. He’s not stopped and has been building road racing, rally, and 24 hours of Lemons cars like mad over the years.

The rendering of his BMW Baja brawler are pretty bad assed. As you’d expect, every inch of the car is going to be modified in some way or another to withstand the pounding of 1,000 miles of desert racing.

If you’ll be at SEMA, swing by the Miller booth on Friday morning to see us give Caswell the flop sweats as we fuse metal with electricity on his car!

Here’s a link to our feature on Bill: What the Hell is a Bill Caswell?

Here’s Miller’s introductory video introducing Bill to the world.
