Absolutely Mint Country Squire Wagon on eBay

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

I could have sworn that this 150,000-mile Ford LTD Country Squire would have had to have undergone a complete restoration to look this good at 41 years old, but the seller claims that it was meticulous maintenance throughout its life that kept the big woodgrain wagon looking like a time capsule. It came equipped with an 8-track player and a 429 Thunder Jet, and it looks like everything still works. Amazing… take a look at the auction on eBay for a ton of droolworthy photos.

So, it sold for $12k. Someone got a really good deal. Plenty of power and plenty of room. These new fugly SUVs don’t come close and most of the idiots who own them don’t dare take them off road which means they’re not as utilitarian as this beauty.

Man I had one of those cars back in 1981. I blew a rad hose on the Highway. Mine had a 390 in it. It was a Light Ivy Grren with the pebbly flat black roof.
Well when I got back with a new hose the car was stripped. Roofrack gone, tires, the 8track stereo gone. Top of the engine, intake and heads gone, even the fibreglass flex fan I put in it. The bashed the endgate. busting the tailight toget in the car.
The insurance wrote the car off. I had done anew paint job on it. The woodgrain went, But I painted it Light Netalic brown with plans to have a western theme murial painted in it at that time.
The car I really miss is my 69 Galaxie 500 sportsroof. I had that before the wagon. Totaled in a accident.

In the late 60′s I inherited a Hertz-Rent-a-Car franchise. Could have bought a year old 1966 H-Shelby Mustang for $2400. But I did buy a 69 Galaxy 500 four door hardtop with 2V 429. What a total blast, this stocker would blow the Camaros off the roadways and still get 22 MPG on the highway. Sadly it wore thin and I made the mistake of trading it for a 72 400 small block LTD. What a crapper.

Wagons are cool, I had a 1965 Frod ranch wagon in H/S with the same exact wheels on it! Pile 20 of your friends in it and head out to the $2.00 a car load night at the drive in, memories :)

Don’t forget the 429 big block. I’m sure this family hauler still has enough getup for a good tire smoking.
