2012 Z28 Camaro Gives the Nurbugring a Whirl

By Jen Dunnaway

This is purported to be the first video of GM’s new blown beastie doing anything cool, and between the supercharger whine and whatever exhaust setup they’re piping it through, it sounds nothing short of amazing. I love how the video shooter is besotted enough to follow the prototype home afterwards. Via Camaro5.

Parking Lot Protection Win

By Jen Dunnaway

After discovering in the course of my bodywork project how much of a hassle it really is to iron out every ding left by a careless motorist flinging open their door, I have made up my mind to never park next to anyone in any of my cars ever again. Or I could just get a bunch of giant styrafoam and fortify my rides like this guy. Via ThereIFixedIt.

Vintage Chase Footage From the Film Which Birthed the Dukes of Hazzard

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Lots of people don’t know that the Dukes of Hazzard television series was inspired by the 1975 movie Moonrunners. In the movie, two cousins run moonshine for their uncle Jesse, while narrator Waylon Jennings tells the tale. The boys are often chased by a policeman named Rosco Coltrane and fight against an evil county boss named Jake Rainey who Uncle Jesse calls “hog”. It is pretty clear that there was a little carry-over between the movie and the tv show.

In the movie the boys race a stock car named Traveler, which was what General Robert E Lee named his horse during the Civil War. Again, you can see where the inspiration of naming the car for the television series came from.

Here’s some good old bangin’ and bashing’ from the movie. Full size cars racing though the woods and smashing each other to bits won’t win you a film festival, but it sure makes us smile!

Galatea Revision Kit Tarts Up the 2003-2006 Tiburon

When the 2003 Tiburon came out, a lot of people noticed the not-so-subtle Ferrari 456 styling cues. Well, the folks at Galatea were inspired to develop a body kit to further enhance the “exotic look” of the humble FWD sport coupe. From the Galatea site:

The styling of the Hyundai’s midsection from the side view appears to be inspired most by other expensive Italian coupes. The Hyundai has the right design genes to look more like an expensive exotic car. The goal of the Galatea kit was to develop the exotic look even further, without giving the appearance of a car with a body kit. The lines of the new kit blend with the doors and roof for an overall design unity. This makes it look more like a new car, instead of a car that has been modified.

The kit, which includes front and rear end fiberglass parts, lights and hardware, runs $5,180. The car you see below was built for approximately $16,000, which includes the purchase price of the used Tiburon and new wheels. Worth it? What do you think? Galatea via Autoblog

Mods? Check. Repairs? Naw.

By Matt Wellumson

The old story, gotta make the car look and sound awesome, then fix the issues the car has later. While driving down the freeway recently, I noticed this gem of a Civic. Overall a clean example, however the alignment was so off, that the car was dog tracking quite bad!  Don’t get me wrong, I love mods, but I think I would want the car to track correctly (especially with winter coming up) and maybe have a bumper, before I would spend money on new wheels, exhaust, and fresh tint!

Wow, our friends across the pond get some seriously badass funeral coaches. This one was spotted on a hauler near Modena. No word on where it was headed or whose lucky stiff it was slated to haul. Via Carscoop.

Wild Turkeys Attack Porsche

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

In an attack seemingly planned to coincide with turkey-slaughtering season, an innocent Porsche was maliciously pecked by a pair of foul-spirited fowl. Apparently they’ve had enough of the seasonal genocide and are ready to take a stand, and lucky for them, the Porsche driver had a sense of humor about it. More on the turkeys’ demands at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
