ViperVette
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Knowing how serious Viper owners and Corvette owners get when challenging each other to the title of Ultimate American Sports Car Ever, I probably shouldn’t step right into the middle of it by highlighting this Viper-bodied 1986 Corvette for sale on Hemmings.com. But I’m a sucker for punishment, so here it is. I can imagine the taunts from either side now: “The only way to make a Corvette look good is to rebody it as a Viper!” “The only way to make a Viper run good is to power it with a Corvette engine!” From the seller’s description:
This is a combination 1986 Corvette frame, engine and dash, combined with a 2000 Dodge Viper body. Thus, a VIPERVETTE. The engine is 5.7 liter with a 4 speed manual transmission. The exterior is all Viper and the interior, although color coded Dodge Viper red and black leather, it has Corvette seats and interior. Options on this car include P/S, P/B, P/W, Power Mirrors, Power Antenna, Power Seats, Tilt Wheel, Top Off Feature, Power Trunk and AM/FM stereo with CD changer mounted in the trunk.

The Red Baron

I’m not sure what’s in the water in that other hemisphere. But it seems that the New Zealanders and Australians are responsible for some of the fastest Skylines in the world. This R32 belongs to Glen Suckling from New Zealand. It is capable of an 8.02 second runs thanks to its 2.7 litre 1300bhp engine. Judging by this picture, it really jumps off the line but I wouldn’t expect any less with 1300BHP on tap. You can’t just turn up at a drag strip and think you can pull off an 8 second run. It is always a combination of things that allows you to break records. It all starts with a chassis that has been stripped of all its unnecessary metal, while panels like the hood and trunk are replaced with lighter-material items. Colin McRae Versus the Crowd

I just saw this amazing video of the late Colin McRae during the WRC Portugal in 1997. The 80,000 crazy fans that are packed around stage one are truly insane, but at the same time I would have loved to have been there with them.

So what if he’s got a hoyty toyty pad on Rodeo otherwise known as “The Most Expensive Store In The World.” So what if he’s from the Middle East and has dough falling out his zoorfat. So what if he’s a bit exccentrrrric. So what if he clothes the President, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Anthony Hopkins and Jay Leno. This dood can’t be all bad if he likes cars. Even if he likes them in yellow.
Now, many people have a propensity to insult or judge people for their tastes or whatever, but my philosophy is that if they like vehicular contraptions, they get a thumbs up. And that’s just plain good karma. Bijan’s got Bentley Azures, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, a Ferrari 430 and this Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe. Plus, The Boogiegatti.
So Bijan… good on ya, dood. Now let’s go for a spin to Starbucks on you.
