I've been kind of distracted this week--getting ready for our top secret Groups release--so I missed the latest Challenger hoopla. Basically a guy over at LS1GTO.com snapped a photo of a Challenger mule running around Michigan in camo--maybe DC Dodge is trying to cover up the fact that the production version will have a B-pillar. Anyway, cool stuff (even though it still looks fat to me).
As a baby coming home from the hospital, my Mom held me in her arms, and my Dad was behind the wheel of a '74 Camaro. My first car was a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix—which was more than enough power for an idiot kid—and when I found out that there were Jaguar XJ6 350 conversions, I knew I had to have one. I mean, that motor has more than fifty years of research and development on it, that's why there are more old hot rods running on Chevy power than anything else. Ever see an old Ford running on Chevy power? Of course you have. Ever seen the reverse? I didn't think so. So, yeah, I've got mad love for General Motors products, and I really enjoyed this show. As the 25 year mark gets closer, the mid '80s IROCs are starting to look more and more attractive, and it was great to see them out at the show. Enjoy the photos!
Back in the golden days of car audio, a lot of electronics were made by hand. If you were persistent enough, competed and/or knew someone on the inside of a manufacturer, you could get some pretty cool custom work done. Everything from custom colors, silk screening, finishes on heatsinks, and having several amps mounted on one chassis was available for someone with the right connections. This crazy eBay find is a custom Zapco amp made for a competitor back in the 1990s, and it's probably one of a kind. In this case they built a custom chassis with 5 ampliers built in (3 2 channels, 1 larger 2 channel for bass and a smaller 4 channel for the highs). Thanks to AudioJunkies for the find.
I’ve heard people make some pretty funny car sounds. Some of the best are customers at the garage, who don’t even realize they’re being funny. This kid, however, takes it to a whole ‘nother level.
Got any videos of yourself or anyone else doing car impressions? Link to them in the comments!
I keep finding cool Tacos on our site. Check out David's 97 Tacoma with big old 33" X 13.5" Swampers on 15" X 10" Weld SuperSingles. Lots of great pics all over O'ahu. I really dig his drag racing pics, too.
When we heard CaliChevylover was going to buy his first ride, we were all super stoked. This guy has been on the site since before he could drive, and when Rob and I were constantly joking about Lambos catching on fire, he even torched his Murcielago model. Recently, he's been sending in photos from his local Cruise In, and we couldn't be happier for him. Oh, and no disrespect intended, but he got this car the old fashioned way—he got a job and earned the money. Congrats man, be safe and have fun!
I've managed to hook up some free product (this stuff ain't cheap!) from our pals at StreetGlow for yet another product giveaway. Here's what we're giving away: (1) one SGL100MC multicolor LED undercar kit and (1) SGLWWMC multicolor LED wheel well kit. That's like a $500 LED setup!
Here's the lowdown:
Take some awesome night shots or even dark parking garage pics of your car or truck and get them on your ride page
Post up a link to your ride page with those pics
Me and my buddy John (check out the StreetGlow ride page he just put together) over at StreetGlow will decide who wins the goods
Then—you aren't off the hook yet—take some pics of the install and get it on your ride page!
1100 HP. Twin-turbo V8. AWD. Composite body. 2500 lbs curb weight. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, don't run to your local supercar dealership just yet. Not only is the proposed "Obsession Exotic" going to cost you $300,000, it's also a pipe-dream at this point.
Major problems with the new Obsession Exotic:
The name "Obsession Exotic" is super-stupid. If you were filthy rich, would you plunk down $300K for something called "Obsession"?
The company's website is super-lame. Browse around and be awed with broken links, missing images, and typos galore. Just the thing to lure ultra rich clientele.
The company sure doesn't present itself very well in person. Take a look at this painful SEMA interview on SBTV.
You may have noticed the new Groups tab, which brings you to this rather vague countdown page. Well, the cat is out of the bag, we are officially launching Groups on Monday. I tried to get a screen shot of the new Groups pages for you guys, but our developers (who have been secretly building this thing for months) saw me coming and covered their monitor screens. So I guess you'll just have to wait til Monday to check it out for yourself.
I really dig this Aussie Biscayne, which looks to be a fairly recent addition to our site. It's got air bags, a 650hp 350 and Brembo disc brakes. Archie promises updates as the resto work continues.
Ok, everybody knows that the Matrix Reloaded sucked. I'm of the opinion they should have made it 15 minutes long, titled it "Trinity Can Drive Anything," and called it good. At least then I wouldn't have felt like I wasted so much time in the theater.
If you're looking for a car to be a total blast straight out of the box, you can't really go wrong with a WRX or an STi. These bad boys are tuned right from the factory to be awesome in the dirt or on the track—but that doesn't stop people from modding them! Of course some of the coolest ones on CarDomain belong to—big surprise—members of the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club. I'm a sucker for black-on-black, so it's no news flash that I thought Josh's STi was totally awesome. Black magic indeed. Steve apparently thinks that some of the pics on his page are "crappy," but I don't get it. One thing we can both agree on is that his '05 WRX is tight as hell, make sure to check out his page. Brad knows that having a wagon comes in handy, especially when it's sporting a turbo. Hey, it's nice to be able to haul more than ass! I thought the JDM fog lights on Brenden's WRX give it a smoothed out racing look, and with those Pioneer speakers in the back, you know this puppy booms! Of course, not every awesome Scooby on the site belongs to a NASIOC member. Adrian's STi has been modded to the gills, but I think it was the forged alloy wheels I liked best. Oh, and he's rocking the same tires that come stock on an Enzo! Talk about trick! Tim's WRX, has had a laundry list of mods done to it, but I think he's managed to keep the overall look really clean, and I loved all the shots of this Scooby out and about in the NW! Of course, that doesn't mean I don't totally dig the flashy graphics on Howard's show-and-go ride. Hey man, update your page and let us know how you placed! CeReS has one of the most aggressive body kits I've seen on his STi... I wonder how easy it is to find parts in Romania? My guess is, well, not. There are too many mods on Michael's ride to list, but I loved the heater for the wiper fluid, forget about just smearing snow all over you windshield. And finally, can you say horsepower? Because Amit can. 520 times, to be exact. Just goes to show, you don't make the cover of Import Tuner for having a wack ride.
Donna and her boyfriend run a company called Cobalt Addiction, and one look at her 2006 model should confirm that the name is accurate... something tells me this puppy wasn't even out of break-in before the tear-down started. I really dug all the shots of the body work being done—the pics of the cars sans headlights were pretty menacing—and liked the swooping curve the body kit gave the back end. Of course, there's plenty of go to match the show. With the new intake and turbo, Donna is hoping to get 375 horsepower, which should provide a few surprises for folks lucky enough to watch it blast off. You can find all the build details on her ride page, and don't forget to check out the rest of the rides in this week's Chevy Showcase!
CaliChevylover left a link to this Barracuda ride page in my guestbook. He thought I would like it. He was right. I just wish there were more photos of this beast.
So if you see a ride page that you think we should feature in the blog, definitely leave a comment in my guestbook. If it's a non-running British car, leave a message in John's guestbook.
