El Camero Concept
By David
aka Highspeedhijinks
Bo Zolland is a freelance artist with a passion for classic cars, and he's got an incredible knack for taking what he likes and transforming it into beautiful 3D renderings. Sometimes he likes to throw his own contemporary interpretations on the classics, modernizing them in ways that suggest how they might have evolved into present-day rides. Bo's "El Camero" concept shows his vision of how Chevrolet might resurrect the El Camino as a cool retrostyled muscle car. And no, we don't know what's up with the apparently intentional misspelling, unless El Camero's literal translation to "the double bed" is supposed to point to its pickup body style. The vehicle would based on the regular Camaro chassis, and could thus incorporate all the available drivetrains—sounds like a kit could be in the works. What do you think, cool car or should it stay in fantasy land?

the 70's called they want their el camino back. news flash it's 2008 maybe if they made it a gas hogging SUV it'd sell better. i've been waiting for this to come back out so i could grow my mullet back out.

The looks are Ok and i think it relly could become a good car. people are saying that the front looks like a monte carlo well the frist el camino was based off of the impala ss. I just think that they should leave it back in the 60s.

I hope you all learned from Myke. Know your history behind the car first. If you don't have a passion for Chevys, you won't understand. I personally own an 83 El Camino, 78 Monte Carlo and a 67 Chevelle. I would love for Chevy to pay homage to the classics of the past. You could never replace them but it would be nice to continue the legacy.

i give props to the artist.. not my style. wont say it is crap but just not for me.. so for the ppl who like this car they should build a limited number and not mass produce it.. if they do once again gm will lose millions

First, let an old-school Chevy-Lover school all of you young boys. Chevy came out with the first El Camino (Spanish translation: The Road) back in 1959 as an answer to Ford's Ranchero, which came out in 1957. This was 5 years before Bunkie Knudsen whipped the cover off of the very first Chevelle in 1964 - the same year that Ford threw the first Mustang out the door - and only 8 years before the debut of the Camaro in 1967, which was intended to counter Ford's upstart "ponycar". (As a bit of trivia, the '67 Camaro was the only year to have side vent windows.) As far as the car/truck issue goes, Ford jumped all around with their Ranchero idea, making Fairlane, Falcon, Torino and LTD models of this pickup car phenomenon while Chevy, once they switched from the Impala version to the Chevelle version in 1964, stayed with that same Chevelle platform throughout the model run which ended in 1987, 8 years after the final Ranchero rolled off the assembly lines. So to say that the true El Camino was actually a Chevelle is not exactly accurate.
Next, this is not a Chevy concept car, but a beautiful (IMHO) rendition of what a pickup styled from a Camaro would look like - hence the monniker "El Camero" which is actually a rendered name for a rendered automobile. Kudos to Bo Zolland for his wonderful work - I would love to see more of his ideas.
Finally, if they make one, I will certainly look at buying one. I have a customized '95 C1500 Trick Truck, and I am considering an '06 400 HP SS/R, but I would put the convertible pickup on hold if I thought I could get a Z/28 pickup, and in the words of Bill Murray (Stripes), "That's the facts, Jack!"
PS - I saw a picture of the Pontiac offering, and IMHO it looks like a little putt-putt. Kind of like the revival of the GTO - a real embarrassment, perhaps even an insult, to a former owner of a '67 GTO 4-speed convertible.

I kind of like this whole idea, definitely won't sell much, but in the words of Earl Hickey, "Wow! An El Camino! That's like the Cadillac of cars!"
It'd be a great thing to be produced in limited numbers for those real El Camino enthusiasts. This is not something that you should let your opinion affect ("Oh well it's not a car or a truck it's dumb", etc.), but rather, give a legitimate reason why it should/should not be produced.
As I have stated, it would not sell as well as the original, so mass production might not be the best idea, but a custom production might be in order.

The car looks stupid. The whole el camino thing is stupid...its neither a car nor a pickup...its a mutant. If one wants to drive with a bed behind you...drive a Colorado/Silverado thats tweaked, its more respectable.

Ok justin, if they only use chevelle front ends for the el camino then why in 1980 - 87 did they still make an el camino using a chevy malibu nose but they didn't make a chevelle at all?

okay. first off reason to the name change is beacuse this is NOT an El Camino if it were to be an El Camino they owuld have to redesign a new Chevelle front end to be used to make it a true El Camnio therefor this is the El Camaro(yes i use an A not an E) hence the camaro front end. so please stop thinking this as an El Camino cause we all know damn well they used a Chevelle SS front end."

That is the problem. It LOOKS like a Camaro with a bed. The Camaro has unique styling. But by copying it onto another platform, it makes both look cheaper. Give the El Camino it own look; it's own personality.
