What Did You Do This Weekend?

By Austin

I decided I had too much money and not enough cars, so, naturally, I spent some money on more cars. A buddy and I hopped in my turbo EXP and drove 300 miles to Stevensville, MT and picked up an 89 Jeep Cherokee to use as a parts car for my existing Cherokee. Deciding that wasn’t enough by itself, I hooked a trailer to my $350 titleless Jeep, loaded up my EXP, and proceeded to Bozeman, MT to look at an 88 Merkur XR4Ti. Figuring that 200 bucks was a bargain for a non-running and wrecked Merkur, I bought it. We unloaded the EXP from the trailer, parked it, and fired up the barely-running Merkur and drove it onto the trailer for the drive home to Havre. I guess I’ll be making another road trip in the near future to pick up the car I started out with!

How about you?  What did you do this weekend?

Turbo or Cam?

I made some lift blocks for the back of my truck. I worked on them all weekend as time allowed, and I finished and installed them Sunday night. I uploaded a few pics of the blocks being made, but didnt get a chance to take one of the truck yet.

HighSpeed… Cherokees are awesome. I’d have done the same thing as Austin (Powers?)… well unless it was equipped with ABS. Fortnately the ’89s didn’t have ABS.

I once owned a ‘91 Cherokee w/ ABS. It was quite possibly the WORST ABS system ever put into a vehicle. $1500 in repairs shortly after I bought it (dealership brough the price down to under $1200, though… how nice) When it was time to sell, the ABS went on the fritz AGAIN and cost even more.

Other than the ABS fiasco, though they’re great little trucks.

BTW: for the curious… I uploaded 2 new pics yesterday of my Firebird.

I swapped out my steering stabilizer to cure my Eagle’s death-wobble. I also switched all my cars to Washington license plates, finally. So I no longer have that badass mystique that comes with running New York plates on 25-year-old cars in Seattle :)

I continued with the install of a Wings West ground effects kit on my Firebird on Sunday. Still some minor tweaking to be done, but everything’s in place and looking nice. I also installed a new set of Michelin wipers, which for the 4th Gen Firebird is much like a Pub Puzzle since the wiper arm hooks are reversed on that model. Finally, I replaced the temporary chrome pee shooter tips with slightly-less temporary stainless resonator tips. What I really want is stainless dual oval tips for 2.5″, but for some unknown, really stupid reason, they aren’t easily found and when they are, they’re ridiculously expensive (so far).

Well on Friday, my GF just bought a 04 Hyundia Elantra GT 2.0 5spd from where I work. It’s “Tidal Blue” and has just under 40k on it. Its a super clean car inside and out. It replaces her 203,000 mile 93 Honda Civic. Stills runs strong though.

On Saturday the first thing we did was go to the various auto parts stores and pick out some personal items. New winter mats, Some winter wipers, Sylvania Silver star headlamps. She wanted seat covers so we bough some only to find out that the car cant acomidate them. Lets just say I wasn’t all that sad they didnt fit. I also picked up a set of blue 194 bulbs. Her “parking light” were just an amber blub so I replaced them with some blue ones. They reflect off of the headlamp reflectors and put out a bright blue light. It really looks mean.

Sunday was a lot of fun. We took the new ride on a nice long trip around the Great Sacandaga Lake. 5pts if you can say it right haha. We went about 145miles and stopped up at Diamond Point on Lake George. Taking our time it took about 3hrs and we averaged 33.1 mpg. I really can see why people love there 4cyl stick hatchbacks. This one is a lot of fun.

Wow you must have had a lot of faith in that Jeep to tow with it right after you bought it.
