Custom P1800 Worth 90 Grand?

By John Coyle

Editor

This customized P1800 is posted for sale over on ClassicCars.com. Personally, I think the ghost flames look awful, and the hood scoop and grill are also pretty lame. But this vintage Volvo does have a few things going for it. The stock mill has been swapped for a Chevy 350—pushing a very respectable 420 horses—the lipstick interior is dead sexy, and the wheels look sick. While the attention to detail is impressive, and the old Swede has been featured in Hot Rod and Super Rod, even with that pedigree, the seller's $90,000 asking price seems steep. What do you think? Worth the money?

I think its a cool rod. With cars like this, to most people it wouldnt we worth 90k, even most car guys, but to the right guy it would be. Its all about tastes, and while my taste may differ, it seems well executed and the craftsmanship looks excelent, so it might be worth it if that car does it for you. It would still probably be less for someone who cant do the work to buy it then to have someone make it for them.

No. It's not worth $90,000 unless that's how much the owned put into the car's modification. If so, I guess he's tryiing to re-coup his investment. But the engine swap is a cool idea, the '57 Thunderbird hood scoop is lame, and what's that blue logo in the middle of the chrome grille bar? A Subaru emblem?

It is mighty pretty, but the SBC kills it for me.
