This Just In: New on the Net

Though I've come to love NASCAR, I still think road racing is cooler, so I obviously had a blast at the American Le Mans Series race in Detroit. One nice benefit of traveling to the Motor City? Well, because of the way my flights were routed, I got to pick up some Philly soft pretzels, which are one of my favorite things in the whole world. If you've never had one, you don't know what you're missing. Anyway, here's the news:

  • Remember the violent protests occurring on the site of Tata's new Nano plant? Well, it looks like the company has had enough of them. Production at the facility has been suspended indefinitely, and there are plans to move the heavy machinery elsewhere. The really bad news? Tata has invested a cool $350 million in the plant. Ouch. Detroit News
  • Most people just remember Lagonda as a model of Aston Martin, but back in the day, it was a stand-alone company, and was a competitor of Rolls-Royce. Well, Aston owns the right to the marque and is going to bring it back. The big question? Why didn't they brand the the new four-door Rapide a Lagonda? Auto Express
  • Times are tough for car dealers, so it's kind of surprising that convertibles are still selling well. Right now, you can practically hear the Big Three sawing the tops off of all their new models. Auto Observer
  • While some folks might feel cheated if they wound up with a V-6 Camaro, it's apparently still a blast to drive. Hey, with 300 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, why shouldn't it be? AutoWeek

It doesn't surprise me that convertibles are selling well - the upper classes aren't hurting financially. It's only the middle and lower classes who are feeling the hurt of the slowdown.

Convertibles are aimed at the upper classes.
