Aerocivic

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Some guy from South Carolina posted pics of his wild Aerocivic on Ecomodder back in December. The Cd dropped from 0.34 to 0.17 and he claims to get 95 mpg when he keeps the speeds between 30 to 65 mph (he was getting low 60s to low 50s mpg before he started the project). Mods to the '92 Civic CX took about 250 hours and cost roughly $400 in materials. More pics after the jump.

It Will Answer LIVE FISH OF INDIANA on the Phone

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I'm just gonna post this AutoTrader ad for a 2001 Honda Insight in its entirety. There is really no good way to sum it up and I wouldn't want you to miss any of the details.

I got this car in Dec 2005 for my new wife 19 and she never got a drivers lic and divorced me in 2007. I never one time drove the car it was damaged and has a rebuilt title. It still needs work because we never complete fixed it. It needs airbags and seatbelts, ( about $500 used ) and the rear battery is not charging due to sitting. If you drive the car it might start charging or you can have a new battery placed in it. I have an extra battery a man sold me. I have an extra engine with 50,000 miles on it I will sell for $300 if u take the car $500 without the car I gave $900 for it. The car needs some paint on doghouse. It has very low mileage and would go 200,000 if fixed more. I got the car to take my cheater wife on trips, but her last trip was with another man so I just drive my new dodge truck & have no need for any car. You can drive the car without the battery working and it might then take charge if the engine forces the charge or the dealer has 144 Volt chargers to try charge it. It gets 61 MPG on the dash reader. It starts and runs good but I never drove it so you might want to tow it home. I am firm on the price. I am 60 years old and have a new wife 20 whos a nurse so she is away doing hospital work and we go no place. She is wife #6 not the one I got the car for. I am going to sell my farm an everything I do not need this car. I have $8000 invested in the car now and need $5000 as I still owe that on the car. No lien on title I got it on credit cards at 30 % interest is why I am selling to cut my interest down. Location is 17 miles west of Bloomington Indiana. Leave a message it will answer LIVE FISH OF INDIANA on the phone.

600K Rides Contest: Thursday's Winners

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Our staff had called Friday as the day we'd most likely hit 600,000 rides on CarDomain. But our awesome members beat us to the punch, and as a result we reached our latest landmark in the middle of today instead! Still, as promised, we're going to be giving away a swag pack each day for the best new ride page and best updated ride page as though the countdown were still happening, because we sure wouldn't want you to miss out on your swag. Congrats to Dawn on her newly updated Prelude, "Lucy Lude": having had her car stolen and stripped, Dawn's had to show more than the usual persistence to keep it looking as nice as it does, and I think the slogan she runs on her multiple ride pages says it all: "If you don't run your fingers over my car, I won't run my car over your fingers." Nice, I think that's going to have to be my new bumper sticker! As with updated rides, there were so many fantastic new rides that it was almost impossible to choose one—but I think it's going to have to go to new member Dan for his absolutely badass Dodge Ram van. With its plaid captain's chairs and floor-to-ceiling carpeting, how could you not want to welcome this ride and its owner into our community?

600K Rides Contest: Wednesday's Winners!

By John Coyle

Editor

As loyal blog readers know, the CarDomain staff thinks we're going to cross the 600K ride mark on Friday, May 16th. So to celebrate, we're giving a swag pack to our favorite new ride page and our favorite updated ride page each day until then. Well, there were some dope rides added today, but out of all of them, Mike's 1949 F-Series pickup stood out. While Ford purists might dig the Mustang front end this baby is rolling on, I get the feeling that the 350 mill might not go over as well. Hey, to each his own! As for our favorite updated ride page, we liked the one that Sly has put together for his ultra-clean Accord. He says he's almost done with this baby, but somehow we doubt he really means it. Are rides like this ever really done? Congrats gentlemen! Jen will pick two more winners tomorrow!

Another Stellar One Lap Performance: Turbo Honda Odyssey

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

On the One Lap of America tour, the Odyssey was one of those rides that always put a smile on everone's face when it turned out at the track: a former test car from Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, it's got a Garrett-turbocharged 3.5L V6 that sounds like a can full of angry hornets when the driver gets on it—the videos simply don't do justice to how loud this thing is. Though it received first place in a class of one, it was great to see this mean grocery-getter take home a trophy. Congrats to Paul, Steve, and Bradley from Honda of Alabama!

Tools Rule

By David Wallens

GRM Editorial Director

After procrastinating for way too long, I have finally moved my CRX to the front burner. It's going to be my new track car, and the first order of business was to replace the world's worst aftermarket steering wheel with a Momo that I scored online. It was tonight's afterwork project.

Obviously I wasn't the only one who detested this wheel, as the hub bore evidence that an earlier removal had been attempted. The scars told the story of a battle lost. Fortunately I had an ally: the correct tool for the job. I am still amazed how people will bent, pry and slam when, in my case, a simple steering wheel puller did the job in no time flat. While I don't own one, I was able to borrow it from our local AutoZone. Today's lesson: The correct tool can often be the difference between an evening filled with frustration and a job well done.

Fit Tops List of Cars Driven by Women

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Apparently, 80% of Honda Fit owners are female (making it #1 by a wide margin on this list of the Top Ten Cars Driven by Women), but I had a hard time finding a female-owned Fit on CarDomain. So I decided to just use this cool pic of Paulo's car.

Riding the Ruckus!

By John Coyle

Editor

Guy, our office manager, just picked up a Honda Ruckus. And while I'm generally not a fan of scooters—zero power, no noise to alert all the drivers trying to kill you—I think this is probably the coolest looking one on the market. After a few minutes of standing and looking, I was goaded into taking it for a spin. Since the last powered two-wheeler I rode was a Suzuki TL1000R—which sports an engine 20 times larger than the little Honda—I wasn't floored by the speed. But I did manage to coax it to 40MPH, and was pretty impressed with how the suspension handled Seattle's crappy roads. Overall, the little ride around the block just made me want to get another motorbike. Sorry, Mom!

Pergo Your Ride

By Sean

Editor

So you've just finished re-flooring your house with Pergo, but you have a a few scraps left over. It'd be a shame to throw it away. There's gotta be something you can use it for...

I snapped pics of this Civic on the way up to Canada to cover the BC Classic & Custom Car Show--those photos should be up tomorrow.

This Just In: New on the Net

Like a lot companies, CarDomain runs its servers on Linux. And while that OS is still a little above my head—I'm just happy I can use my iPod—I thought it was interesting to see it's the system of choice for F1 teams. How long will it be before it's practical for regular users? Anyway, here's the news:

  • Stop the presses! It looks like RENNtech has made a brake rotor big enough to handle a hi-riser! At 16.2 inches, it's more than half the size of a pair of "30s, so being donkalicious no longer means having to coast to a stop. Jalopnik
  • Hillary Clinton and John McCain want to give consumers a break from the gas tax this summer, and while it sounds nice, it basically means they both think you're dumber than you look. Carpetbagger Report
  • Honda is probably the most boring company in the world, but guess what? America loves boring! Last month, the Accord was the best selling vehicle in the States, and this April isn't looking bad for it either. Auto Observer
  • If you have a few grand to spare and want to get a feel for what Audi's burly new 420 horsepower R8 can do, you might want to check out Audi's "driving camp" in Cali. Hey, burning rubber beats the hell out of weaving baskets. AutoWeek
  • Volvo has built its reputation on safety, so it can't be happy about having to recall 65,000 cars. The problem? A software glitch is delaying the deployment of side-impact airbags. This is one situation where late really isn't much better than never. CarScoop

Fast and Furious 4 Opening Scene Feature Car Project: Part 1

By Ben Schaffer

Bulletproof Automotive

Some of you have heard the rumors already. Universal Studios had asked us to build them twin S2000 feature cars. The Honda S2000s will be used in a racing scene along with a few other feature cars for the opening sequence of Fast and The Furious 4. Currently the two cars are already completed and have started filming. It is a long and interesting story, some of which I can say now and some of which I cant. Here is part 1:

I was a consultant on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift for a short period of time. During that time at one point I was asked to design/build the majority of the cars for FF3 (they even asked me to have Top Secret build them a full built GT-R engine for the Mustang). I was given the car list and I started to plan some pretty serious cars. Shortly after the planning stage everything started falling apart and I left the project because their direction and my own did not mesh. I had big hopes to bring some of the hardcore Japanese functional design to the movie but ultimately the movie’s decisions were made for reasons other than purely the art form of building the best cars possible. The only tangible thing that materialized from my time with them was the article I wrote for Modified Magazine offering the world exclusive on the GT-R powered Mustang and an inside peak on the development of the movie. 24K Gold RE30s Mounted Up

By Ben Schaffer

Bulletproof Automotive

19 x 10 and 19 x 11 on an S2000. Tire sizes 255/30 front and 275/30 rear. (I wrote about these wheels yesterday.) I soooooo wish that they didn't make me build a red car. I really don't like red cars. At any rate, I cant wait to put these gold RE30s on my gold car, it’ll look incredible! PS: Thanks for all of the great comments!

I was out of the office for the last few days, because I was in Florida for my little sister's wedding. It was great, and I even managed to avoid embarrassing my parents by getting plastered at the reception. Hey, first time for everything. Here's the news:

  • The first Bugatti Veyron has been sold in China, for a whopping 3.5 million bucks. How's that for Western decadence?  Autoblog
  • The Bush administration doesn't want the Big Three dragging their feet with the new CAFE standards, which is basically another way of saying, "hey look at us, we're still relevant!" Automotive News
  • Asimo, Honda's cute little robot, will be conducting the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in early May. The opening piece will be "The Impossible Dream," and will be followed by the composition "Submit Human Scum, Robot Liberation has Begun." Detroit News
  • People really like the new Malibu. The average price consumers are paying is $200 higher than what folks are shelling out for the Camry. Good news for the General. Freep
  • Employees in Ford's Design Center will not be allowed to bring their kids into the office for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work day. Maybe the company is still smarting from the leak of this 2010 Taurus shot? New York Times
