The General didn't mess around when they designed the new ZR1. This baby is packing 638 horsepower, runs the quarter at 11.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 205 miles an hour, all for just over 100 grand. Wow. Check out this start-to-finish clip of GM's halo car coming together.

It was great to finally see the ZR1 up close and personal. This car is simply spectacular. All the details are just right. Take a look at the pics after the jump and let me know if you agree.

Ever wonder if the track edition of your favorite exotic is worth the extra cash? Well, so did the boys over at Road & Track, and they decided to find out. They ran back-to-back hot laps with the Viper SRT10 and its evil twin, the SRT10 ACR, compared Lambo's Gallardo Spyder to its tarted-up sister, the Superleggera, and pitted Porsche's Carrera S against its big, burly cousin, the GT3 RS. They also took a look at the numbers and tried to determine whether Ferrari's 430 Scuderia and the Corvette ZR1 will really deliver over their standard brethren. The article is way cool—and it'll make you wonder exactly how someone gets a job at Road & Track.
Check it out.

Chicago is home to the oldest and biggest auto show in the states, so there'll be some wicked debuts—and lots of other generally trick stuff—to behold this week in the Windy City. We're super stoked about—stubby hood or not—Dodge's 2009 Challenger, the potent little Yes! Roadster, and Chevy's new giant-killer, the ZR1. Concept-wise, we'll be posting killer shots of Dodge's ZEO, Hummer's beyond-burly HX, Mitsubishi's ferocious looking Concept-RA, and Audi's wicked R8 V12 TDI. Head over to the show's official site to see exactly what's going to be there, and if there's anything you're dying to see, let us know!

Ok, the new ZR1, GT500 and Challenger are all cool. But, come on, $1 million for ZR1 #1? $650k for GT500 #1? $400k for Challenger #1? Seems like the only reason anyone would spend that kind of coin on a new car is if they thought it was a good investment. But do you even think these will be good investments? Or is it more about bragging rights?
I think these new 'Vettes look really hot, and I can't wait to see one in the wild. Watch this video to get the run down on all the carbon fiber bits on Chevy's new bad boy.

The ZR1 beat the GT40 by a two to one margin in our latest new car battle. I think it's a combo of having a lot of rabid Chevy fans on our site, the GT40 being a kit (I didn't put the GT in the match-up because it is no longer in production) and the ZR1 seeming a wee tad more practical. Oh, and it's a freakin' hot car, too.
What cars do you want to see in our next new car battle?
The Ford GT40 is the original American supercar, taking down Ferrari at Le Mans. And Superformance arguably builds the best and most accurate modern day reproduction--over 90 percent of the vehicle's components are interchangeable with the road-going version of the real GT40s of the 60s. And now Chevy has created a modern day supercar, the ZR1, which is set to challenge anything Europe or Japan has to offer. Both cars will set you back around $100k. So which would you choose? Old school or new school?
I'm predicting 2008 is gonna be a great year for gearheads. Why? Cause a ton of cool cars will be hitting dealer lots. Here's my list of the ten hottest cars for 2008 (and this is our last year-end top ten list, I promise).
1. Nissan GT-R. 'Nuff said.
2. Dodge Challenger. Though I still have to see it in person.
3. Tesla Roadster. Ignore the doubters and the haters.
4. Mustang Bullitt. Worth it just for the Dark Highland Green.
5. Corvette ZR1. The Veyron is silly--this is a real supercar.
6. Impreza WRX STI. Sure, it won't win any beauty contests, but it's better than ever.
7. Mitsubishi EVO. Might not please the purists, but this is a much improved car.
8. BMW 1-Series. Long live the 2002.
9. Chevy Malibu. Does Detroit finally have a Camry beater?
10. Pontiac G8. V8, RWD, good looks and under $30k--what else do you want?
Official photos of the baddest Vette ever are out. The all-new LS9 motor produces a whopping 620 hp (that's 100 hp per liter for this supercharged 6.2 liter V8). And this car is loaded with carbon fiber--in the fenders, hood and roof. Of course it's rolling on big wheels (19" x 10" in front and 20" x 12" in back)and has massive brakes (15.5" carbon-ceramic rotors up front and 15" in the rear). Priced at around $100k, this is a supercar bargain. More details and tons of photos at Left Lane News.
