Hemmings Find of the Day – 1961 Pontiac
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Of the half-dozen or so drag cars recently uploaded to the Hemmings.com classifieds, all by the same seller in Minnesota, we dig this 1961 Pontiac the most. It may not have the best racing history of the bunch, may not be as valuable as the rest, but how can you go wrong with a draggin’ wagon? Plus, as longtime Hemmings Muscle Machines readers know, we’re big fans of the work that Scott Tiemann does with Pontiacs. From the seller’s description:
Historically Significant Vintage Super Stock car with great paperwork and history, Set and Held 5 National NHRA Records, Built 455 by Pontiac Guru Scott Tiemann, Magazine feature from 1969, Time Slips, Owner History, Street Legal, Show or Nostalgia Race ready.

Hunter has been working on his ’61 Apache since age 12. Now he’s 15 and finally has his learner’s permit. Less than a year to go! Check out his ride page for more pics of this cool purple truck.

They’re Still Out There! ’61 Vette Gets a New Home
By Rob Einaudi

Pretty much every car guy and gal’s dream… From The H.A.M.B.
I found this 61 Vette recently when I asked about a RX-7 convertible that was rotting in the backyard. He asked if I was interested in another car he had and of course I almost choked when he said it was a old Vette! Car is all original with one repaint from 30 years ago still looking good. There is a book of documentation with the car including the original window sticker and sales invoice! There is also every registration going back through three owners and bills-of-sale from each one with the cancelled checks! All service history from day one, original wonderbar radio manual, original hardtop manual and even an electric clock manual!
I got it home and points and plugs and a fresh battery and she runs like a 5 year old car. The black convertible top looks brand new! Tires have flat spots on them from sitting and are a little but wobbly but hey, I’m NOT complaining. He offered it to me for what I thought was a good price and of course I jumped on it, but after I bought it I did some research and realised it was about 60% of market value. Oh, and AFTER I bought it he tells me he has a hard top for it in a back bedroom! It only needs a little cleaning and detailing and some sunny day driving!
More pics after the jump! (The trunk shot just kills me.)

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1961 Willys FC-170
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
While it’s no camper, like the two HFODs from earlier this week, one could certainly turn this 1961 Willys FC-170 currently for sale on Hemmings.com into a camper. Just slap a box over the bed, fill those gas cans and head out into the wilderness. From the seller’s description:
Desert truck. Never seen snow. This truck has a rebuilt engine (original) with about 100 miles on it. The only rot is in the roof gutters where I let it sit outside and collect leaves. Pin holes in the roof at the gutters. NO RUST WHATSOEVER IN THE NORMAL PLACES LIKE CAB CORNERS, UNDER THE BATTERY ETC. Runs, drives, stops great. All gears work. Interior all original and not bad except sagging headlner. This is an amazing, original ROT FREE truck that can be driven cross country tomorrow. I have owned for 20 years and bought it from the Calif desert. Stored inside last 10 years and driven rarely.

From Junkyard to Car Show in Less Than 60 Days
By Rob Einaudi

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you may remember Tim from a series of posts we did on the 7,600 mile road trip he took in his ’69 Road Runner back in the summer of 2007. Well, Tim is still tinkering with his Runner, but he came across a ’61 Olds that he couldn’t pass up. Read the full story of how he bought the car and took it to its first show in less than two months. It’s proof that you don’t have to have a ton of money to have fun with old cars.
