Cherry Bomb Reveals The Disturbing The Peace Project 1968 Camaro

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Our pals at Cherry Bomb have announced that their next project will be a cool 1968 Camaro. Cherry Bomb ran an online poll for enthusiasts to decide what the company’s next project would be and the Camaro won out over a Mustang. In typical Cherry Bomb style, the car is going to be loud, fast, and pretty freakin’ slick lookin’. Make no mistake about it, this isn’t just an exhaust upgrade, these guys are doing the Camaro from soup to nuts.

The car will be built by YearOne and will have a fusion of different styling eras. The motor, an LSx-based plant, will be topped with an 8-71 BDS blower. That’s mechanical retro-futurism at work if we’ve ever seen it.

We look forward to keeping tabs on this project. We’re going to pester the dudes at Cherry Bomb to slip us build photos under the shop door as progress begins. Read the full release from Cherry Bomb after the jump!

1968 Biscayne Packing Factory 427 Power

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

If you’re a fan of fullsize ’60s performance cars, the big-block Chevy Biscayne has to occupy a spot in your personal hot rod hall of fame. For their era, they were awesome sleepers. Stripper cars typically devoid of any real options and sporting dog dish hubcaps, their drivers would roll up on unsuspecting prey sitting on a bench seat with a four-speed handle coming through the floor. Q-Ships indeed!

As you’d imagine, these so-called “strippers” from back in the day now command lots of money in both the private sale and auction arena. This car that we found on eBay will bring some serious bucks if the right person finds the ad. The car is a well documented factory 427 piece and spent time as a drag car back in the day. The original 427 met its maker back in 1969, but a GM factory replacement motor was used to replace it.

Packing 4.56 gears, a fully tuned up 427, and a stout Muncie four-speed, this thing would be an absolute blast to drive. According to the seller, only 124 were produced with the 425hp version of the 427 under the hood and it is claimed that only three of them are still around today. Is that true? We have no idea. All we know is that we don’t have near the money necessary to buy this beast, but we want it badly!

King Komet 1968 Mercury Cyclone Drag Race Survivor

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

There’s a lame saying about old drag cars and how they never die. That it is total crap. Old drag cars get bent, wrecked, blown up, burned down, hacked up, and restored to factory condition all the time. That’s why one that survives with the total package of history, coolness, a winning pedigree, and a brighter racing future is special. The King Komet 1968 Mercury Cyclone is so special it’s nearly sublime. Continue reading at BangShift.com

Dodge Charger Resto

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

What do you see when you look at this photo? Yes, it is a Charger on a rotisserie. However when I look at it I see some real inspiration. This Charger belongs to CarDomain member mopar_nut_440_6 who has done just about all the metal work on the car himself. When you are staring down the barrel of a full nut and bolt restoration on your own Charger like I am, something like this only helps to reinforce your own plans. Get the full story on James’s ride page. If you are wondering James is currently building a new garage and hopes to have the car finished for next year.

David Freiburger Wants His Dart Back

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Some of your may remember the Cheap Thrills Dart, a low-buck project car that ran in Hot Rod Magazine in the mid-90s. The goal was to get the old A-body to run 12s for $2,000, and they ended up with 12.69 at 107 mph for $1886.92. Not bad.

After the tranny blew in the middle of the first Hot Rod Power Tour, David shipped the car home and then ended up selling it a short while later for $800, thinking he’d never care about it again. He saw the car around Hollywood for a year or so before it disappeared. Well, now David wants his old Dart back. It was a factory red 273/auto car with a black bench seat interior. If anyone knows the Dart’s wherabouts, post a comment below.

Video: Tim Divers and his Fresh Take on Hot Rods

By John Naderi

StreetFire.net

See this El Camino. It’s a 1968 SS model. While not exactly a Round Door Rolls it is somewhat of a coveted treasure among aficionados of muscle. The SS belongs to Tim Divers of Divers Street Rods and friends tell him it would be worth more if left unmolested. However because the Camino holds a special place in Tim’s heart (it served as a “tour vehicle” for his band and a college car for his daughter) he says he’d rather hack it up into a rod thus reducing its collectable value and removing the temptation to sell it.

I like the way Tim’s mind works. And what a mind it is. Tim Divers is part Tim Burton and part Sid Phillips yet his creations are not scissor-handed mutant toys but rather kinetic sculptures comprised of jewel-like fabrication and an attention to detail that would rival anything on the lawn at Pebble Beach. Hit the jump to see a StreetFire original production/Will Roegge Joint on Tim and his most infamous project – Ferrambo.

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to have fun while doing so. The Pontiac Grand Prix made it’s debut in 1962 as basically a re-styled Catalina. It was built as a full size, two door hardtop, than blended performance and luxury into a tasteful package. The full-size Catalina-based Grand Prix did very well through the 1960s, and is often credited with the move towards minimal exterior trim seen during this period, and the Grand Prix had a much stronger performance image than its competitors, as it was available with the full range of Pontiac Power, from the 303 HP 389, to the Tri-Carbed 389 HO producing almost 350 HP. The Grand Prix kept pace with the full size Pontiac, but it was rapidly losing sales to other personal luxury cars. The low point is the subject of this edition, with a one year only styling. Introducing the 1968 full size Pontiac Grand Prix. Continue reading after the jump!

1968 Torino GT 390 on eBay

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

This 1968 Torino GT 390 hit us in the gut as we’ve recently admitted to ourselves that we have a super soft spot for these cars.

This particular example is a nice piece. It’s not some super rare, one of none car, instead it’s a solid car with the right stuff like a 335hp Police Interceptor 390, a 9″ differential with 3.25 gears and a factory limited slip, bucket seats and a C6.

This is a car you could jump into and have a blast with immediately, our favorite kind (but strangely the ones we never seem to buy). Dad was apparently fixin’ this one up for his kiddo, but college bill started flowing in, so it’s up for sale. Grab it and start putting the FE torque to work!
