This is a 1969 Danz Camaro SS concept car. I built the car in 2006. In 2006 the new Camaro was just a concept with no definite plans to go to production. I took a real 1969 Camaro and modified it to look some what like the 2006 concept Camaro. Thinking that I would have the only one in the world if the Camaro never went to production. I combined the original 69 Camaro design with the 2006 concept Camaro design, with my own designs. Especially the hood scoop and rear spoiler design are my own. I gave GM pictures of my car in Jan 2007. It appears that the 2010 SLP Camaro has a simular designed hood scoop and rear spoiler to my car. To power my car I went with a 427 small block with the vintage dual 4-barrel crossram manifold and carbs. I went in that direction because I wanted the legendary 427 cubic inch and also to use the vintage dual 4-barrel crossram. Backed with a 700 r transmission to a Ford 9″ differential. The F.A.S.T. Racing Hemi Road Runner gets taken out for one last run through the gears before being put up for sale.

Just about every car nut I know has a story about a car that got away. A car that was sold under financial duress or in a moment of stupidity. The car of the month this month is Keith’s dad’s old 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I. The original invoice is pictured below. Ten years after buying it heavily optioned, with a four-speed and 428 Cobra Jet, Keith’s dad sold it for less than $1,000. Where is it now? If you know, get in touch with Keith and help him out.

Last week I showed you this tough GTX. Well, here’s another flat back ‘69 B-body for your consideration. Mike bought his Road Runner for $500 at a police auction in Long Beach, California back in 1986, and he’s been taking it to the drag strip ever since. I don’t know how I missed this awesome GTX on our site, which, not surprisingly, sets off car alarms everywhere it goes. In general I don’t like the trim on ’69s, but Mark solved that problem by removing it. That flat black paint looks tough!

So, you want to build a custom car, huh? Well, let me just start by saying that you’d better do some research before you jump in head first. I get A LOT of people telling me that they are thinking about building a car, but in reality they have absolutely no concept of what it takes to actually do this. They think that the shiny red tool box in the corner of their garage is all they will need to make a SEMA show car. They’ve generally read some magazines about how someone built a car for $4,000 out of junkyard parts, a little rattle can paint and some upholstery work by their mom, and they think, "Hey, I can do this. I’ve got the skills, I got the drive, and I’ve got a red tool box!"

Oh, how wrong they are. Being a backyard mechanic is one thing, and by this I mean you’ve changed some brake pads, done some oil changes and maybe even installed a stereo or two. Being a true customizer is something totally different, as you are generally creating something from nothing. That means taking parts that were never meant to work together and making them work together. It’s a bitch and one that constantly bites back.

MR. ANGRY INC. finally took off the wraps on project "ANGRIER," and let me tell you something. It was a long road to get to this point–15 months to be exact–and all along the way things fought us. From simple electrical issues, to broken wheels, to suspension components, etc. Oh, and let’s not forget about the money, ALL the money. A good rule of thumb, if you decide to embark on a project, is figure out your budget then double it. Do this and you may come in on target.

All in all building a car is a truly rewarding experience, and if the outcome is what you want you will be thrilled in the end. Just keep in mind that the project will cost you more than just time and money. Don’t believe me? Ask anyone who’s ever done it.
