Historic 1970 Pontiac Firebird Road Racer For Sale on Auto Trader
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
t’s OK, you can stop looking. We’ve found the coolest 1970 Pontiac Firebird in the world. This restored racer has some interesting history under its belt, like being the first production car to win an SCCA race on radial tires. It competed at Daytona, Sebring, and several Trans Am races during the 1972 season. Because the car and team were based in Canada, the team was allowed to run a Chevy engine, because Canadian Pontiacs shipped with Chevy mills.
Even neater than that, the car was constructed by Jerry Titus’ TG Racing team. It was the third of three car built with the intention of competing in the 1970 Trans Am season. BF Goodrich became the primary sponsor of the car and it became known as the “BFG Tire Bird”.
According to the seller’s ad, after the 1971 Daytona 24 hours, the car was converted into a Camaro and lived the rest of its racing days as a Chevrolet. Obviously the car has been restored to appear as it did prior to the change over.
The sales price is a stratospheric $550,000. As much as we love the car and think it runs the cool meter off the charts, half a million is steep money. Sure it was the first radial tire car to win an SCCA race, and being a footnote to history is something cool, but half-a-million cool?
Being able to fire it up and take it out at historic races would probably make all that buyer’s remorse float away like exhaust out of the side pipes.
Oh, we want it bad.

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1970 Dodge Challenger
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
You know nowadays exactly what kind of condition a Challenger has to be in for the asking price to be in low four-figure territory; it’s just unusual to see an unrestored big-block Challenger around now, as well as to see one for just $2,500, as with this 1970 Challenger for sale now on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:
Car is an original big block model, automatic transmission with the factory “slap stick” shifter, power steering and air conditioning. Several body panels have been changed out (see pics). No seriuos rust in the body – quarter panels are good, rear light assembly intact, front fenders are rough. Engine is currently a “B” block 383 c.i.d. Mag. Condition is not so good – but it should be a re-builder. Transmission will at least need seals, probably has a shift kit in it – don’t know if the converter is anything special or not. Car has a Dana 60 rolled under it. It is a positraction unit with 3.56 gears. Differential is dry (no oil) so clutch packs are stiff – doesn’t roll too easily. Include is a trunk and interior full of parts, pieces, gaskets and whatever.

Pro Street 1970 Challenger
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Every once in a while we run across a car we know you would love to see, but that we can’t shoot a full feature on due to time or circumstance. Our neighbor, George, has some cool toys, including a clean four-speed 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner, several cool trucks, and a really bitchin’ big rig. But one of our favorites is his bad black pro street 1970 Challenger. Last week we saw the Challenger parked in his driveway waiting for its prospective new owner to come check it out. We took the limited time to shoot a few photos and bring you this “mini-feature”. Check out all 19 photos here.
George’s ’70 Challenger features all the required elements of any good pro street car, wrapped in a beautiful black package. Stock handles and bumpers leave no one guessing what it is, and keep the look classic. On the inside a mostly stock black interior is accented with race buckets, vinyl covered tin work, and an assortment of Auto Meter gauges. Continue reading at BangShift.com

By Dan Strohl

While I didn’t come across a Cadillac station wagon for today’s Vintage Hemmings Find of the Day, such Cad wagons were indeed the rage back then, and still appear today, as seen with this 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood nine-passenger station wagon currently for sale on Hemmings.com.From the seller’s description:
Exceptional unrestored California car. Fully loaded with all Brougham options including power factory sunroof, rear foot rests, windows, door locks, etc. Beautiful silver paint with red leather interior. Excellent conversion! Beautiful lines unlike may wagon conversions.

Nice Fury
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Cody’s 1970 Fury II popped up in the new rides list on Friday. I owned a ’70 Fury III convertible in this same color for a few years back in the 90s. Seeing this pic of the menacing front end makes me want my old car back. Wonder where it is now…

Stoked
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
On Monday I ended up behind this cool Camaro in the ferry line coming back from Vashon Island. We just missed the previous boat and had an hour to kill, so I went over and talked to the owner. Turned out to be Jay Rowlands, actor/director/producer of the upcoming feature film Clutch. Jay and I had corresponded a bit about his film via e-mail a year ago, but had never met in person. Look for clips from Clutch to show up on StreetFire in the next few months as Jay finishes up the final editing.
Jay picked up this Daytona Yellow Camaro last year. It was originally 4-speed L34 SS 396 big block car, though the original drivetrain is long gone. It’s currently motivated by a LT-1 style 350 and was serving duty as a dedicated drag car until Jay put it back on the street, with new exhaust and street tires. The Flowmaster 40s with 3 inch tubes and an X-pipe sound great. So good, in fact, that Jay has been using the car for some sound editing on the movie. The license plate was my favorite part of the car, though. Jay said that he’s had that plate on various cars over the years. Stoked!

1970 Cuda Funny Car on eBay
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
We stumbled upon this nugget of cool on eBay after we had seen the Monte Carlo with the insane asking price. It, too, is a bit pricey, but it’s a truckload cooler than the Monte.
The owner of the car does not know much of the history of the body or chassis, only that it’s a virtual miracle that it has lived through years of being drag raced all over who-knows-where.
As it sits, the car has a 440 and automatic trans. The seller is also including an old school aluminum Hemi block for you to start your proper repower project as soon as you get the car.
We’re hoping that this car has some glorious history that the new owner will uncover.

Win This Car: Restored and Supercharged 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger
Automotive Traveler
Some weekends are busier than others, and this weekend was a challenge. It started Thursday night shooting a 1950 Dodge wood-bodied station wagon here in Temecula wine country. This was followed Friday evening and all day Saturday with three more woodies. Throw in a Sunday morning VW show in Carlsbad in the shadow of Legoland and concluding Sunday night at the Taco Station in Riverside to photograph this very special car. It’s a fully restored and supercharged Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. Best of all, you can win this car and contribute to a good cause in the process, as it was built by the Inland Mopar Car Club for the Alumni Association of the California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR). It’s their annual raffle car, and it could be yours for as little as five dollars. Continue reading at Automotive Traveler

1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am and Ford 8000 COE Transporter
Automotive Traveler
What makes the weekly Cars and Coffee gathering at Ford’s Western Regional Headquarters such a great event is that every week is a surprise; today was no exception. Whether it’s seeing Lamborghini’s latest parked next to a vintage Ford pickup, or this week, more than two dozen Boss Mustangs commemorating the 45th birthday of America’s most popular Pony Car, nothing can quite beat this combination: a period-correct recreation of a Bud Moore Ford Race transporter with a tribute to Parnelli Jones’ 1970 Trans-Am championship-winning 1970 Boss 302 Mustang on top.
