Hemmings Find of the Day – 1984 Renault R5 Turbo2

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

As an AMC fan, I could look at Renault as the company that brought on the death of American Motors. Or I could look at Renault as the comrades-in-arms that had the right amount of insanity to build the LeCar-based R5 Turbo2 (seriously, wouldn’t the AMC guys have done something similar if they were European? Maybe they’d whack about a foot from the wheelbase while they were at it, too…). So I’ll plug this Turbo2 currently for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description:

1984 Renault R5 Turbo in Red with tan cloth seats and tan carpeting; 5-speed, 19,800 miles with roll bar. Original paint and in excellent condition. Recently had remote oil filter modification done with braded steel oil lines and braded steel clutch hydraulic hose.

Clean Celica!

I remember when my friend’s parent’s bought one of these new in the early 80s. Brings back memories! You definitely don’t see many as clean as Bindanoe’s ’84 Celica.

1984 Ferrari 512BBi Times Three

By Rob Einaudi

I think Patrick Ernzen is trying to kill me. The guy took my favorite Ferrari, somehow managed to locate three of them, and then took some totally sick photos of ‘em. I can’t decide whether I like it better in silver or red. A few more pics after the jump, or see the full gallery at Desert-Motors.com.

K-car with a Continental Kit!

By Rob Einaudi

Time is running out if you want this awesome ’84 Chrysler LeBaron convertible on eBay. Continental kits look bad enough on cars from the 50s and 60s, but this is just atrocious. I asked my buddies at Moparts for some production numbers on these but couldn’t get a serious answer out of anyone. One guy did comment that it looks like a "bumper-mounted toilet with the seat up," which seems like a pretty accurate description. I wonder if those chrome exhaust tips are factory. More pics after the jump.

Buick Powered El Camino

By Rob Einaudi

As you may have noticed by now, we like El Caminos. Neil bought this straight, rust free V6 car on eBay in January of 2007 and immediately ripped it apart. On July 4 it went out on its maiden voyage with a stout Buick 455, Tremec 5 speed, new paint and interior (Acura CL bucket seats and Dakota Digital instrumentation). Pretty damn sweet. Be sure to check out Neil’s ride page for plenty of nice shots of the restification.
