Hemmings Find of the Day – 1987 Lincoln Zephyr

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

I’m assuming somebody had a plan here. They didn’t just have a four-door ‘87 Lincoln Continental and decided to have at it with a Sawzall. No, they wanted to build a two-door version from the start and christen it a contemporary Zephyr. Trouble is, the ad copy for this Zephyr, currently for sale on Hemmings.com (for $14,000 out of Beaufort, South Carolina), doesn’t clue us in on the who, why, and when.

This beautifully customed Lincoln has been custom built from a 4-dr Continental into a 3-window coupe. 5.o V8.

Original-Owner 1987 Buick GNX

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

You’re going to get familiar with the names Gary and Pam Beineke. We invaded their privacy to shoot and video several cars from their way awesome collection, and we’ll be featuring those cars in coming weeks. Most are cars that the couple built from scratch, but there’s one that they just picked up along the way. That’s this one, a 1987 Buick GNX that the couple bought brand new back in 1987 and has held on ever since.

Ironically, every other piece in their collection is a Mopar product, but this Buick holds a special place in their hearts. As one of only 547 ever produced, there are plenty of reasons why.

The GNX was basically the parting shot fired by Buick when it came to be known that the Grand National would be dead at the end of 1987. Buick teamed up with ASC/Mclaren to design a package that would totally optimize the drivetrain and upgrade the suspension of the car to levels previously unheard of in factory cars. The name was an homage to the legendary GSX moniker that was used on the highest performing Buicks from 1970-1972. They used 455ci to shred tires, this car used less than 250 to haul the mail.

The devil is totally in the details, so click here to see the gallery that’s loaded with photos and captions that spill the beans on this pinnacle Buick.

Oh yeah, right below there’s also the kickass video of the 8,000-mile original shredding tires. The ones it rolled out of the factory on.

Finally, I Have My Own Project!

By Alex Vickers

Katakuna

Due to my father being fed up with his 1987 Ford F-150, he gave it to me. I should have realized what I was getting myself into before I started working on it. It caught fire back in November, then sat until a week ago when I started tearing into it. I swear, I’ve not been more aggravated with another project in my entire seventeen years of life.

Porsche 959 on eBay

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

You don’t see these for sale every day. The seller claims that the rare Porsche is fully US legal, with "over $250,000 in upgrades, most notable of which is 702 HP and 640 lb/ft of torque." Apparently, all this work was done by the folks at Canepa Design. But does that make it worth the starting bid, set at $650,000? Personally, I’d want it as close to stock as possible. Two more pics after the jump, and check out the eBay auction for all the details.

Redneck Rally Car

Check out Justin’s cool CRX dirt track racer. He picked the car up for $100 and has invested another $1000 to make it race ready. Mods include a Corbeau Baja SS seat, RCI 5 gallon fuel cell, RCI 5 point racing harness, Exedy clutch and a Competition Engineering (Mororso) 8-Point roll cage. Those are Bear Claw ATV tires for the front. Looks pretty wicked. His MySpace page is pretty hilarious, too, and has more details on the Redneck Rally Racing League, which runs at the Fossil Bowl in Clarkia, Idaho.

Toyota Cressida Limo?

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Here’s something you don’t see every day: a 1987 Toyota Cressida limo. Apparently it was built for the sales manager of a Toyota dealership in California. And it’s on eBay now with a Buy It Now price of $2,850.
