Team Camaro – First Leg of the Route 66 Rally

By Robby DeGraff

Well the first official leg of the rally has been completed, from Joliet Illinois to Rolla, Missouri. While asleep at 7am, we got our requested wake up call from the Motel 6 front desk and got the day off rolling. Before we get into the rally leg, lets talk about the Motel 6 and how it might be the biggest disappointment in motel chains. Ok so we all know that Motel 6’s tagline is “We’ll leave the light on for you,” but when we arrived at this motel last night at like 10:30pm…..they left the light on, but didn’t leave us any shampoo, working internet, bath towels, and the usual motel hotel conveniences. Not to mention, the hallway was orange and reminded us of a dimly lit hotel in The Shining. The room itself had like bamboo floors, an upscale bathroom, my partner John and I were just confused haha. Now, on to day one of the rally: the first day was an adrenalin rushed successes. We packed up and headed out to the back parking lot and saw the wide variety of cars competing with us.

Team Scion – Day 1

By Jeremiah Stiable

Today was the first day of the Route 66 Rally. Receiving adequate rest, we woke up early to prepare. After the car was washed and ready, we headed to the Route 66 Raceway. The Raceway would be our official start line for the first day.

After signing a waiver, we were allowed to enter the Route 66 Raceway parking lot. Everyone was taking pictures and socializing before filing into starting position. While we were in line waiting, we received our checkpoint cards for the day. Listed were the three checkpoints to be visited before the finish line in Rolla, MO. The checkpoints for the first day in order were Ambler-Becker Texaco Gas Station, Memory Lane, and Lincoln’s Tomb.

Jessica Rosebaum, gave an arm drop for pairs of cars to leave the staging area. We waited patiently for our times to be recorded and let loose. Some cars turned right while some cars turned left. We turned left.

Turning left was the right way and we arrived at our first checkpoint (Texaco Gas Station) quickly and easily.

Team Scion Heads to Route 66

By Jeremiah Stiable

We are here! Team Scion is checking in from Joliet, IL. After a brief drive, a few stops and generally good luck we have made it to our hotel easily. Along our route we were able to join a convoy heading from the East. Together we rolled through multiple states until we made it to our destination.

The only hurdle was checking into our hotel room. Both myself, Jeremiah Stiable, and my co-driver, Michael Falvo, are mere months from turning 21 and were unable to check into our hotel room being “underage.” Luckily Scott was able to sign us in and save us from sleeping in our car.

The hotel parking lot was its own car show. All the teams gathered in the parking lot to check out and seize up their competition. Alliances are being formed and enemies are being picked out. After everyone was settled in their rooms, we headed out to dinner. This was a great time to meet and talk to the people we will be associating with over the next few days. Great food and conversation followed.

We are packed and ready for the Route 66 rally that has been sponsored by CarDomain, Hagardy and our main sponsor CJ Pony Parts. The trip down to so cal was a long a tedious journey but as we got closer the excitement started to build. The Mustang performed flawlessly and handled an average 90 mph on I5 taking a 7 ½ hour drive and turning it into a 5 ½ hour drive. Checked in to the first hotel and are letting the festive begin. I can’t thank those who made it possible for us to make this journey RPM forums, Heaven or hell Tattoos, and ASAP Digital Imaging for all their support and belief in us. Team Camaro Hits the Road on the 2010 Route 66 Rally!

By Robby DeGraff

Team Camaro (Robby DegGraff as driver and John Jarzombek as co-driver/navigator) heads down to Joliet, Illinois for the 2010 Route 66 Rally starting line less than 24 hours! This past Saturday night, the weather was perfect to spend a few hours detailing and waxing the car we will be using for the rally: a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro. I went to work on washing, polishing and putting a few good coats of Mequiar’s wax on the bright red paint of my car. I had heard from past participants in road rallies that if your car isn’t caked in wax, and you go ahead and apply decals to it….have fun getting your car repainted (as the decals will eat the paint right off your unwaxed car!). With an old Sony boom-box playing some summertime rock in the background, I spent the next hour or so placing the necessary decals on the Camaro for the upcoming road rally.
