Since the release of the highly acclaimed new 2011 Ford Mustang GT this spring with its touted new 5.0L engine pumping out 412 horses, performance shops and owners have been raising the performance bar in short order as they continually push to find the limits of Ford’s new and improved Pony car. Both Evolution Performance and JPC Racing have pushed their Mustangs into the 10s. And just this last weekend, came the 9’s; courtesy of Strictly Performance in Pearland, TX.

Richard Lelsz drove Strictly Performance’s 2011 GT to a 9.968 at 137.19 miles per hour on Friday night at Houston Raceway Park, in Baytown, TX to become the first of the new Mustangs to break into the 9’s.

Check out StangTV to see more about how they got there.

5.0 Six-Speed Mustang

By Katherine Helmetag

Last week, I popped into the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress to talk to the sheet metal peeps about making fenders. While I was there, I checked out Ford’s Ride’n'Drive, which included the all-new 5.0-powered six-speed manual transmission Mustang. So…. Power? Gobs. Snickety-snick ultra-tight shifter? Entire pattern fits in a sticky note. Feather-light clutch? You got it. Suspension and steering? This ain’t your daddy’s Mustang. Incredible awesomeness? More than you can possibly imagine. I hooned it out a bit on the Lodge and 375, and was so blown away that I forgot to take a picture of it. If there was any concern that environmentalism was killing the horsepower wars, forget it. It’s not happening.  Ford scores again. This Mustang is better than your wildest dreams.

There’s been a lot of hype over Ford’s 2011 Mustang for the past several weeks, and rightfully so–the new Mustang is totally badass! But this begs the question, how will the 2011 Camaro compare? We’re still awaiting GM’s official press release, but so far we know that the 2011 Camaro V-6 engine recently completed SAE certification testing and is now officially rated at 312 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, just barely topping the 2011 Mustang’s new 305 horsepower V-6. So far nothing new has been reported for the SS Camaro’s drivetrain. Follow the jump to see what else is new for the 2011 Camaro!
