WWII Veteran Drifts Volvo
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
Pushing the limits, this WWII veteran knows how to get down in a lowered Volvo. Drifting isn’t just for the youth, it’s for anyone that enjoys the smell of burnt rubber and the rush of sliding sideways. Read more about the WWII drifter at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Grassroots Motorsports Celebrates 25 Years
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Our friends at Grassroots Motorsports just put out their 25th anniversary issue. That’s a pretty big accomplishment for a totally independent, family run operation, and my hat is off to Tim Suddard and his crew. If you’re not a subscriber or can’t make it down to the newstand, they made the entire issue available in digital format. The issue’s feature article is their list of “the 25 best cars ever.” It should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the magazine that the Miata made the top spot, but I was pleased to see that the Mustang made the #4 slot and that the Volvo 240 squeaked in at #25. There’s also a great article on the 24 Hours of Lemons, and I was very happy to see that two CarDomain members made the list of “three cars that should have sucked but totally didn’t”–the UDMan’s Corvair and the Team Size Matters Fury.

5.0L Volvo 240 on Craigslist
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
In our ongoing quest to find Ryan a Fremont car, Rob ran across this Mustang-powered Volvo wagon on Craigslist. It’s got some cool suspension goodies from IPD, the company in Oregon that does performance aftermarket for Volvos. It’s also running Flowmasters, so I doubt you’d be able to pass it off as a stock 240 with an exhaust leak. That and the badging kind of give it away, but it’s still running the grandpa automatic. Sleeper indeed! Pics and ad after the jump.

Super Clean S30 Nisan Fairlady (240Z)
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
This particular car caught Colin’s eye at the weekly Cars and Coffee meet in Irvine, CA last summer. He doesn’t have much information about the car other than it’s a genuine JDM Fairlady Z with an immaculately done RB25DET swap. Talk about a fantastic update, bringing a beautiful classic up to modern day standards. The best part about this car is how well integrated the swap was done. To a normal person, the swap is almost imperceptible. This is a great example of doing it right and paying attention to the details.

What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I got my Volvo towed. Why? Cause I recently bragged to John and Jen how I had never gotten a parking ticket, and how I had never gotten towed. So I managed to do both at the same time. I came back to my rental garage in my Satellite Friday afternoon and noticed that the wagon was missing. Since no one in the history of the universe has ever stolen a Volvo 240, I was pretty sure it had been towed. Turns out the city clears off 11th Avenue in the U District every weekday between from 4 to 6 PM. I don’t know how I had missed this–the signs are pretty clear. Oh well. So, $118 later (plus the $38 ticket) I got my car back from Lincoln Towing up on Aurora.

This crazy Volvo 240 wagon is for sale if you want to haul it back from Sweden. I kind of like the idea, but I’m not so sure about the execution. More pics after the jump. Via Jalopnik.

CarDomainTV: Victor Moore Drifting at Pacific Raceways
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Victor Moore is quickly making a name for himself in the Northwest drifting scene. The guy just has a really smooth, precise style that is a blast to watch. Read the post I wrote on Victor and his 240 back in May, then watch the video we put together for CarDomainTV. Our videographer did a ride-along with Victor, so we got some pretty cool in-car footage for this one.

UTCC Contender: Joe's LS1 Powered 240SX
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Joe has done a lot of drifting with his Chevy-powered 240SX, but claims it’s a pretty good track car, too. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it out at Buttonwillow in June.
