Photo of the Day

Today’s photo of the day is from Jeff’s Porsche 356 ride page. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Riviera Blue on a 356. Looks awesome!

Keep those photo of the day PMs and e-mails coming!

Hemmings Find of the Day – Porsche 356 Prototype

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Ah, we meet again, Mr. Waibel. I last saw your Porsche prototype in the Imperial Palace’s collection in April, for sale for $275,000, and it seems you found a buyer, because now Cooper Classics in New York has your prototype for sale on Hemmings.com for an undisclosed sum. Prototype Hamburg

By Ralf Becker

Chromjuwelen

Well, ok, Hamburg isn’t right round the corner for most of you, but in case you are planning a trip to Germany, you shouldn’t miss a chance to visit our brand-new ”Prototyp” exhibition (and while you’re at it, you could also drop by one of our Chromjuwelen Motor Shows). To call this place a museum would be wrong. Prototyp is more a treasure collection of German engineering–especially Porsche engineering–with the 356, 597 Hunting Car and 906 Carrera 6, just to name a few. To give you a quick impression of the ”pre-opening” event, I’ve included a ton of pics after the jump.

You have $175,000, Whatcha Gonna Buy?

By Dan

Hemmings Motor News

I recently saw two interesting, but wildly different, cars on the Hemmings online classifieds for the same price. The first, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, proves that blackwall tires instantly testosterone-ify any vehicle from the 1950s. Normally, I’m not that much of a fan of first-gen T-birds; leave ‘em to the lost-in-the-‘50s, sock-hop-and-James-Dean types. But the blackwall tires, the body color wheels and the McCulloch blower underhood all have me reconsidering early Birds. The second, a chopped, slammed and apparently stretched 1955 Porsche 356A, proves that, well, it doesn’t really prove much. The ad doesn’t state whether it’s a repro body or not; either way, some Porsche purist will have a heart attack at the sight of it.

Gearhead Numerology

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

I doubt I’m the only one afflicted with this. But there are a ton of numbers out there get me thinking about cars. Times and dates are biggies. For example, if I look at the digital clock and it’s 3:56 or 4:26, then I’m thinking about Porsches or Mopars. Anyone else have this problem?

356 Replica Makes it Easy to Be Green

By John

Editor

Sure, PGO Auto’s Cvennes Turbo-CNG looks pretty. It’s a 356 replica, how could it not? But it’s the fact that it runs on compressed natural gas which makes it so drop-dead sexy. The green machine puts out a respectable 155 horsepower from its turbo 1.6 liter four-banger, and with a presumably low curb weight, performance shouldn’t be an issue. The company hasn’t decided whether to actually bring the car into production yet, so reaction from the crowds at the Geneva Auto Show will probably determine its fate. Here’s hoping the brass likes what they hear. More at Winding Road.

Sweet Speedster

On display in the Stoddard booth, this 1956 Porsche 356 Speedster convertible has undergone a complete restoration by European Collectibles, including engine and trans rebuild, and body stripped to bare metal prior to repainting. The finished job looks amazing!
