5.0L Volvo 240 on Craigslist

By Jen Dunnaway

In our ongoing quest to find Ryan a Fremont car, Rob ran across this Mustang-powered Volvo wagon on Craigslist. It’s got some cool suspension goodies from IPD, the company in Oregon that does performance aftermarket for Volvos. It’s also running Flowmasters, so I doubt you’d be able to pass it off as a stock 240 with an exhaust leak. That and the badging kind of give it away, but it’s still running the grandpa automatic. Sleeper indeed! Pics and ad after the jump.

The 5.0 Mustang is Coming Back

By Rob Einaudi

There have been a lot of rumors swirling around, but Mike Levine over at PickupTrucks.com is reporting that a new 5.0 V8 will be the standard engine in the F-150 by late 2010, and that it will be shared with the Mustang. And Autoblog is guessing that Ford will show off this new  Stang variant at the New York Auto Show in April. Stay tuned…

5.0L MG at the All-British Field Meet!

By Jen Dunnaway

That’s a Ford 302 from an ’85 Mustang that rumbles beneath the hood of this little MG, piped through a gnarly set of custom-made through-the-fender headers that terminate in dual side-dump glasspacks. I love how the car keeps a refined look despite its wild insides, though the exhaust tips poking out in front of the blacked-out Triumph wheels give it away somewhat. The owner, Craig, says he doesn’t really get a lot of hassle from the pursits about this conversion, because there were so many MGs made that the "sacrifice" of a few here and there to build fire-breathing street beasts doesn’t ruffle too many feathers. I got the contact info from him for the guy who did his headers—I’m hoping he can fab up something similar for my Eagle!

Return of the 5.0 Mustang?

By Rob Einaudi

Mustang Evolution just dug up a story on the Kiwi site Stuff.co.nz on the return of the 5.0 Mustang for 2010:

The news stems from Ford looking for a more fuel efficient engine for the popular Ford Falcon which currently sports a 5.4L V8. No word yet on what the specs of the new 5.0L engine will be but one can assume the specs will be over shadowed by the fact Mustang owners will once again be able to buy the famed 5.0L Mustang, even if it isn’t the old pushrod engine we have come to love.

Sounds cool to me. And I’m stoked that I get an excuse to use this Vanilla Ice pic again.

8 From The 80s: 5.0 Mustang

By Rob

The 5.0 Mustang was an instant hit with enthusiasts when it first appeared in 1979, and today it continues to have the kind of aftermarket support most people would kill for. It’s getting harder to find ones that haven’t been seriously hacked or abused, but they’re still out there. My favorite are the LX package cars, which are a bit lighter than the GTs and have that cool, sleeper look. Scott’s car (below) won our Face Off a few months back. Project Krazy Horse is, well, pretty crazy. Jamie’s car runs 11s and Lee’s car is into the 10s. Jeff’s car was featured in 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords. Ray has a super cool notch. And I still think about this notch I spotted at the GRM Ultimate Track Car Challenge this summer.
