Audi metroproject Concept Mini-Site is Live!
By Sean
Editor
Audi just launched a site for the amazing A1/mettroproject quattro concept, Audi’s MINI-fighter we reported about not too long ago. After checking this out, I’m even more excited about the possibility of this car becoming a reality. The design is nimble and efficient, and the hybrid motor is an exciting study for Audi to consider.
Check out this microsite for plenty of mouthwatering pics and official details, but also make sure to check out the downloadable screensaver and a brief artistic film (basically just a fancy slide show with flashing lights, but a really good one). Hopefully if and when this car comes to production, Audi doesn’t change much. The swooping waterfall grille is pretty spot on with current models, and the headlights and taillights really finish off the package, avoiding the "cute" classification most minicars end up falling victim to.

Audi A1 Multimedia Phone Revealed!
By Sean
ICE Merchandiser
Details have emerged on the phone mentioned in our Audi A1/Metroproject post! Here’s what we’ve learned: The phone fits into a docking port which allows it to interface with the vehicle’s multimedia system, and it’s designed to function like the MMI systems in current upper-end Audis. Alone, the phone is a phoneduhwhich features Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity as well as an MP3 player and navigation. But it also does a lot of other cool stuff, like report the security system status, lock or unlock your doors, and remote start the vehicle. The last feature is particularly cool, because if it’s freezing cold or boiling outside, you can adjust your climate controls so the car is comfy as soon as you hop in. The full-color touchscreen also offers handwriting recognition, and can display photos taken with the vehicle’s on-board camera. Thieves might want to think twice about trying to steal this car, as that camera is integrated into the security system. If the alarm is tripped, the car will snap a photo of the intruder, send it to you, then initiate the location-tracking systempretty pimp! Get more details over at Motor Authority.

Spied: Audi A1 mule
By Andrew
Left Lane News
With rising gas prices and stricter proposed emissions regulations, both in the U.S. and abroad, automakers are looking to smaller vehicles to increase mileage and reduce CO2 emissions. Not only is this true for mainstream automakers but of luxury brands too. In Europe, Mercedes-Benz offers the A and B-class while BMW uses its Mini brand as its global small-car division. And, thanks to a new round of spy photos, it looks as though Audi will soon join the small-car segment.
Spy photographers spotted a mule for the upcoming Mini-fighting Audi A1 while out testing in Germany. Although the mule is covered in the body of a Volkswagen Polo, it is underpinned by the mechanics and drivetrain of the Audi A1 (the "IN" on the license plate stands for Ingolstadt, which every test Audi wears). Although seen in a three-door hatchback body style, the A1 will be available as a five-door hatchback, two-door coupe and as a convertible.
Engine choices are expected to be available in gasoline FSI and diesel TDI guises. A more powerful TSI engine will bow later. Transmission options will include a standard six-speed manual and an available seven-speed DGS gearbox. A turbo-charged, all-wheel drive S1 remains a possibility.
According to our sources, the A1 should debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show with the convertible version following in 2010. Audi has reportedly set a sales target between 100,000 and 120,000 units annually. More photos at Left Lane News.
