Epic Bike Wreck

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

In case you’re one of those people who always complains, “well that’s x minutes of my life I’m never going to get back,” I’m going to warn you: a hellacious wreck, and then a whole lot of nothing, happens in this video. But you kind of have to admire the guy for staying with the remains of his bike despite all the chaos around him.

Wrecks From The 2010 Saudi Drift Season

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Saudi drift generally involves fishtailing a car violently back and forth at a high rate of speed, almost invariably on public roads. Those who that pull it off typically end with a 360 or 720 spin into the winners’ circle. Those who fail typically end up combining themselves with their low-budget sedans. See more drifting carnage at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

Yet more incontrovertible evidence that roads are for cars. Speaking of which, check out that tough silver wagon on the opposite side of the street.

Car Loading Fail

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

The following video shows an attempt to load a car onto a trailer gone completely wrong. Flying through the air, the car lodges itself sideways between the trailer’s support beams. Now that it’s on the trailer, how do we get it off? Read more at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.

RIP Mark Niver

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

During the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA this weekend, lifelong drag racer Mark Niver was killed after a wreck caused by a parachute malfunction. The chutes tore away before they had a chance to slow Mark’s Top Alcohol dragster, which then barreled through the sand trap and slammed the catch netting, causing the car’s frame to buckle over onto the driver’s cockpit. It seems a little senseless for a “safety net” to be responsible for someone’s death–shouldn’t it have a break-away design so it could still slow the vehicle significantly but then let go before causing catastrophic damage? I guess you can’t prepare for every possible eventuality when you’re dealing with basically flimsy vehicles hurtling through space at 300 mph–but NHRA has been a little deadly lately, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a safety crack-down before too long. Rest in peace, Mark Niver.

Could Have Been Much Worse: 4×4 Hits Two Guys

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Every guy shooting wants to get as close to the action as possible, but something tells me the dude manning the camera here has invested in a zoom lens. He takes a pretty hard lick from the business end of the burly 4×4, but at least he’s knocked out of the way. The guy I was worried about? The one that gets run over immediately afterward. The way the truck is bouncing made me think the worst, but fortunately, he climbs out from under the rig unharmed. Given that the driver just keeps going like nothing happened, I have to wonder if he knows how close he came to killing somebody.

Jeremy Clarkson Injured in Crash

By John Coyle

Editor

There aren’t many details available, but Jeremy Clarkson has been hurt in a high-speed crash while filming a segment for Top Gear. Fortunately, his injuries were far less serious than the brain trauma suffered by colleague Richard Hammond last year, and he’s already recovering at home. Obviously, it takes more than little old car wreck to shut Clarkson up—here’s what he had to say about the state of his body after the incident: "My right index finger looked like a burst sausage, my left shin wasfatter than my thigh and my back felt like someone had driven over itwith a pile-driver." Yikes. Get well soon Mr. Clarkson, hopefully we’ll get some more info once the new Top Gear season starts in November. via The Mirror
