Drifting NSX

By Speedhunters

Car Culture at Large

Well here’s a sight you don’t see everyday, even here at Ebisu! Not only was this guy drifting an NSX, “the Japanese super car,” but a modified NSX! The car has a wide body aero kit and engine tuning that includes aftermarket camshafts coupled with remapping via an HKS FconV Pro. The most amazing thing about the day was the way he transported all his drift equipment, including 6 spare wheels! Continue reading at Speedhunters

Ghettolicious: The FXMD Time Attack NSX – So Wrong it’s Right Again

By John Naderi

StreetFire

See this car? It’s a piece of shit. It flies in the face of conventional motorsports wisdom and it’s an insult to the development and direction of the time attack ethos. And you know what, I freakin’ love it! The FX Motorsports Development crew and their NSX are so wrong they’re right again. Much like the GST Impreza RS this NSX is ghettolicious in the finest sense of the term. When I say this to the team’s driver and co-owner, Billy Johnson he gets a little miffed. But team principle Ken “Nami” Namimatsu is rockin’ my Kool Aid with some ice and a straw if you know what I’m saying. Hit the jump to figure out exactly what I’m saying (I’m not even entirely sure) and to see our StreetFire.net video feature on this NSX.

NSX Perfection

By Patrick Ernzen

Desert-Motors Magazine

I’ve always loved the NSX, and while it is still highly regarded in certain circles, it’s often looked at as overpriced, underpowered, dated and so on. With a lifespan of 14 years where it went relatively unchanged while others caught up and surpassed it (at least, on paper), it’s an understandable view. While the NSX remains a phenomenal car in factory form (it quickly and deservedly earned the moniker of “the everyday supercar”), it only gets better when put in the right hands and, in my opinion, is one of the very best platforms to come from any manufacturer. That’s why a car like this 700+hp widebody ‘94 NSX just makes me all warm and fuzzy. When I first met the owner and saw the car in unfinished form, I immediately wanted to shoot it. Fast forward two and half years later and this is the results of that shoot. Check out the full article, more photos and the rest of the issue at Desert-Motors Magazine.

Krider Racing Integra Rolls to Victory at 24 Hours of Lemons

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

You may have read about this spectucular Lemons finish on Jalopnik last week. Well here’s the story right from Krider Racing’s Acura Integra ride page:

After being victorious at Altamont in 2008, Krider Racing came back to the 24 Hours of Lemons to try to be the first team to win the series twice. At Buttonwillow in 2009, Krider Racing led the first day, battled back and forth with Evil Genius Racing (winners of the 25 Hours of Thunderhill 2008) and then Krider Racing had the lead on the last lap of the race. The battle between the two drivers was epic and the pressure was on. Three quarters around the track at Lost Hill, Randy Krider rolled the Acura onto its roof in spectacular fashion giving the win to Evil Genius. Krider Racing still picked up a class win and, of course, a great story. Thanks to I/O Port Racing Supplies for keeping our driver safe.

Thanks to Rob Krider for the tip!

Time Attack NSX Runs Tens!?

By John Naderi

StreetFire

A couple weeks after Billy Johnson and the FX Motorsports NSX decimated the field at the Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs with an unheard of 1:18.555 I spoke with Mike from FX at SpoCom. Above the din of dueling DJs – sorry, I’m old – Mike tells me something about them taking the NSX to the drag strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, rolling the car off the transporter – in full time attack set up, mind you – and clocking a 10-second quarter-mile pass!? I chalk up the miscommunication to the loud music and my bad hearing – again, I’m old – but then I see this video on StreetFire. Hit the jump to see what I’m talking about.

Bad Shift Makes Acura Endo!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Everybody knows missing a shift can have disastrous consequences, but this has to be one of the worst instances I’ve seen. Apparently the dude behind the wheel was going for third, but wound up slamming the gearbox into first. Yikes. Obviously, the Acura wasn’t very happy about that, and pulled a pretty burly endo before coasting to a stop. You can’t really hear too much on the video, but I can only imagine what it sounded like inside the car as the tranny lunched itself. There’s some adult language at the end of this clip, so if you’ve got sensitive ears you might want to keep volume down.

NYIAS: Acura ZDX Concept

By Jim Brennan

aka UDMan

There seems to be a lack of imagination within the car manufacturers these days. Case in point? The New Acura ZDX Concept. This is one of those vehicles that seems to be on the drawing boards from each and every manufacturer, to make a coupe based on an SUV chassis. This is suppose to bring sports sedan performance with Acura’s all aluminum VTEC V-6 engine mated to an all new 6 speed automatic with the Acura’s super handling AWD. Making Of Acura’s RDX “Wall Art” Ad

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor-at-Large

A lot of you have probably seen Acura’s latest TV spot and figured it was just plain old CGI. Turns out, though, that the ad was done entirely with stop-action animation using the talents of UK street artists David Whittle and Henry “Sainty” St. Leger. They used one giant 40′ x 60′ board with the Acura positioned in front of it, then created a moving tapestry of urban scenery, one frame at a time, by repainting the canvas (and in some cases, the car) for each successive shot to create the illusion of forward movement. Nothing was computer generated or superimposed–see that aerial view where the birds fly over? Those birds were painted directly onto the floor and the vehicle’s roof to produce that sequence. The whole thing took ten days, 455 gallons of paint, and 503 rattle-cans, and they had to keep an automotive detailer on location–and you thought your last spray-bomb paint job was messy. Follow the jump to check out the making-of video.

2009 Acura TL: Banker’s Delight

By Ryan Douthit

Driving Sports

You may have noticed the country is in a bit of recession. If you still have a job, you’re wondering for how long. If you already lost your job, well, sucks to be you. Either way, you’re probably not shopping for a luxury sedan. Because of that, I will assume only bankers will keep reading this review.

Thanks to the Fed’s recent bailout of Wall Street, and since no one seems to be able to track where, exactly, all that money is being spent, I will therefore suggest to our banker friends it’s an ideal time to consider a new executive sedan.

There is a possible problem with this, however. If you roll up to the office in a Bentley, the New York Times would certainly run your photo and pluck you out as the fall guy for the misappropriation of bailout funds. Your banker buddies would be more than happy to supply the press with made up tales of your faux financial philandering, to divert attention from their own recent purchases: like that island in Cuba Brokerage Bob just bought.

Therefore propriety demands you buy something sensible. Problem is, you want something sporty. That is a pickle… or is it?

Next Gen NSX Cancelled

By Speedhunters

Car Culture at Large

Sadly, it seems like there’s a never ending streak of bad news coming out of the auto industry these days. The latest is the word that Honda is scrapping the new NSX, a car which has been in development for some time now. I suppose it’s not too surprising considering Honda is pulling out of Formula 1 and announcing cuts elsewhere. Building high dollar, low production sports cars just doesn’t make sense given the current state of the auto world. It’s sad because the new 500+ hp NSX was shaping up to be a true supercar, just like the original was when it came out in the early ’90s. There is still a chance the project will be revived when things get better for Honda which will hopefully be sooner rather than later.

E-Brake Win, E-Brake Fail

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

From CarDomain Video, here’s a nicely-executed e-brake turn by a ‘99 Sentra in the suburbs of Corpus Christi. Now, as a study in contrast and a reminder that you that you probably shouldn’t be practicing your stunt driving on public roads, below is an awkwardly-attempted turn on a too-narrow, gravel-shouldered country road that ends up with the participating Acura in the ditch. Enjoy!

Who Is Tracy Sports?

By Ben Schaffer

Bulletproof Automotive

I wanted to blog about a company that is always behind the scenes but often not recognized. Do you know the name Tracy Sports? If not, you soon will…

I met Yamamoto-san from Tracy Sports nearly three years ago. At the time I was so impressed, I instantly decided that I wanted to become their North American distributor despite them being entirely unknown outside of Japan. This happens from time to time, I get lucky and find a great company that nobody has ever heard of and then I make it my goal to let the world know. Over the past three years, I’ve ended up distributing Tracy Sports products to clients all over the world and people are now starting to see first hand what I’ve seen.

You might recognize some of their products on my S2000, and if you read this blog you’ve seen their parts on various clients cars as well. I’m going to focus now on what you haven’t seen. Lets start with one picture of one of my favorite cars of theirs and then tomorrow I’ll dig deeper into it. I hope you love this car as much as I do, it’s one of my all time favorite NSX’s.

Want to know more about Tracy Sports? Read Part 2 and Part 3 of this article at The Real JDM.
